To all whom it may Be it known that I, LAWRENCE P. GREEN- MAN, a citizen of the Unitedy States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooks, of which the following 1s a specification.v

My invention relates to hooks, and particularly to that class of hooks which are made from a single piece of metal, with an upper hook, and a lower hook.

The object of my invention is to improve upon the ordinary construction of a hook of the class referred to, and I preferably make my improved hook of wire, or flat stock, secured in position by two attaching devices, such as screws, made separate from the and located in vertical alinement with each other, and in the same vertical plane as the upper hook and the lower hook;

By my improved constructionof a hook, I provide a very strong and durable hook, of neat and attractive appearance, which can be very securely attached to the supporting wall or surface, and by means of the upper attaching end extending above the plane of the hook roper, I obtain a very secure attachment 'or the hook at its upper part, and prevent it from moving or being detached y reason of the hook being heavily weighted.

My invention consists in certain novel features of construction of my improvements, as will be hereinafter fully described.

Referring to the drawingz-Figure 1 is a side view of a hook embodying my improvements, showing a detached portion of the support by broken lines, and looking in the direction of arrow a, Fig. 2. In the accompanying drawing, Figs. 1 and 2, is shown a hook 1 embodying my improvements, in this instance made of flat wire, or fiat stock, in one piece. The wire or stock is bent or formed preferably in the shape shown, having one end a extending in a vertical plane above the plane of the main portion l of the upper hook t, and at substantially right angles thereto, to form a part of the upper attaching end of the hook, and provi ed with an opening therethrough to receive an attaching device, as a screw 2.

The wire forming the upper hook b, may be bent as shown in Fig. 1, to form an angular recess or depression b on the up er side thereof, and then rounded to formt e point or end b of the upper hook, and then bent downwardly and inwardly to extend, preferably at a little distance from the upper edge of the upper hook b, to form the lower edge thereof, and then bent downwardly to extend in substantially the same vertical plane as the upper end a of the wire, `and form one part c of the lower attaching part of the hook, 'which part has a .hole therethrough to receive an attachingdevice, as a screw 3. From the wardly and outwardly, preferably on a curve, to form the upper edge of the lower hook d, and is then bent u wardly and downwardly to form the point of the lower hook d, and then bent downwardly and inwardly, and preferably at a little distance from the upper edge to form the lower edge d of the lower hook d, and then bent upwardly, to extend back of and in alinement with the attaching portion c, end a, in a substantially vertical plane, to bear against the support 4, shown by broken lines, and in vertical alinement with the vertical plane of the upper hook b and the lower hook d, and the ends of the wire being superimposed. The vertically extending portion e has an opening therethrough for the attaching screw 8, and also an opening therethrough for the attaching screw 2.

In Fig. 3 is shown a modified construction, and a diHerent shaped hook. In said Fig. 3, the upper attaching end a of the wire, Fig. 1, does not extend above the main portion of the upper hook b, but the hook is attached to its support by a screw or other device 2,v

which extends within the loop formed by the upper ed e and the lower edge of the upper hook. T e two ends of the wire are superimposed, or overlap each other and extend in a vertical plane, to form, with the vertical portion of the hook, corresponding to the vertical portion e, shown in. In said Fig. 4, the vertical portion of the attaching part ofthe hook, corresponding to the portion e in Fig. l, does not extend above the upper edge of the upper hook b, to form a double attaching part for the upper screw 2, as shown in Fig. 1, but as the lower edge of the upper hook.

The screws or attaching devices are preferably located, one intermediate the upper hook and lower hook, and the other above the upper hook, but the ulpper attaching deoop of the upper hook, or above the lower side of the upper hook.

I have shown and described herein my improvements, as a hook, but it will be understood that it may be used for other purposes,

for example, two of the devices may be used as brackets or supports for rods, to form a towel rack, etc.

Having thus described my invention, what desire to secure by Let- 1. A hook formed from a single piece of wire or liat stock, shaped to form an upper hook and a lower hook, and beginning and ending at the same part of the hook, the ends being superimposed, and the hook adapted to be secured in position by two screws, or attaching devices in vertical alinement with the hook.

2.V As an improved article of manufacture, a hook made from a single piece of wire, or at stock, shaped to form an upper hook and a lower hook, and beginning and ending at the same part of the hook, the ends of the wire or stock being superimposed, and the hook adapted to be secured in position by two screws or attaching devices, made separate from the hook.

3. A hook formed from a single piece of wire or flat stock, shaped to form an upper hook and a lower hook, and beginning and ending at the same part of the hook, the wire or stock superimposed near the ends, and said hook adapted to be secured in position by an attaching device or devices, made separate from the hook.

4. A hook made of wire or ilat stock, shaped to form an upper hook and a lower hook, the lower hook looped upon itself, and an attaching device strands of the lower hook.
