To all lwhom. it 'may concern:
Be it kno Nn that l, W1LLIAM A. DAGGETT, of Sont-h Vineland, in the countyY of Cumberland, and State of New Jersey, havein vented a new and improved Clothes- Frame; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which willenable others skilled in the art to make and use the'same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a side view of my improved clothes-trame, several of the single bars being extended, and parts being broken away to show the construction.
Figure 2 is a detail view of a port-ion of the reverse side of the frame, showing the button.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish a simple, convenient, strong, and durable clothes-frame, which shall be so constructed and arranged that when extended, it may furnish a large drying-surface,and, when' closed, it may shut up into small compass; and
It'cousists iu the construction and combination of various part-s of the flame, as hereinafter more fully described.
A are the horizontal bars of the frame, which are arranged Ain sets, three bars being in each set.
To the outer ends of the horizontal bars of each set is attached a vert-ical bar, B.
Each succeeding set of horizontal bars, A, is the breadth of one of the vertical bars, shorter than the preceding set, so that when closed, all thc bars of the frame may be iu the same plane, and` the entire thickness oi' the closed frame may be no greater than the thickness'of a single bar.
Through'the other ends of the horizontal bars A are formed holes, through which is passed a long iron rod, C, which also passes through hollow tubes D, placed between the diiereut groups of the ends of the said v horizontal bars A.
The lower-end of the rod O enters the foot-piece E a suthcieut distance to be firm and stable.
Upon the upper` end of the rod O is cut a screwthread, upon which is screwed an ornamental nut, or cap, F, to secure the different parts of the pivoting, or hinge-bar CID E in place.
Upon each of the bars A, or upon any desired number of said bars are placed single bars G, through one end of each of which is formed a hole, for-the passage of the rod C, the other ends of said bars G being left free,
The. bars G are kept in place upon the bars A' by pins c', attached to the said bars A, and entering holes iu the said bars G, as shown in g. 1.
When required for use, the free-ends of the bars G are raised suiiciently to free them from the pins a', allowing them to be swung freely into any desired position.
To the side of the central one of the longest set of horizontal bars A is pivoted a button, H, which buttons iuto a slot, or recess in the vertical bar B, to which the ends of the shortest set of horizontal bars A are attached, as shown in iigs. 1 and 2, so as to securely fasten the clothes-frame, when closed.
vHaving thus described my invention,
I claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. rlhe combination of the horizontal bars A, when maderin sets of different lengths, vertical bars B, the single bars G, and pivoting, or hinge-bar C D E F, with each other, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. Securing the clothes-frame, when closed, by means of a button, G, pivoted to the central one of the longest set of horizontal bars A, and buttouing into the vertical bar B, attached to the ends of the shortest set of horizontal bars A, substantially as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM A. DAGGETT.
Witnesses G. H. BENNETT, H. Denison.
