Be it known that 1, CHARLES L. DEPOL- LIER, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bows for latches, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved bow for watches by which ladies watches can be suspended in the manner of a chatelaine broochbow, directly from the garment so that the separate brooch-pins heretofore used for suspending the watches are dispensed with, and the free movement of the watch on the brooch-pin and the irregular movement of the escapement consequent thereto, prevented, and a more regular running of the watch-movement obtained. The improved bow also dispenses with the swivel-arrangement hook, and other means of the chate laine brooch-pin, whereby a saving in cost,

material and workmanship is obtained.

The invention consists of a watch-bow provided with means for suspending the watch directly from the garment of the wearer, said preferable means consisting of a pin-tongue and catch located at opposite sides of the bow, as will be fully described hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front-elevation of my improved bow for watches, Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively a rear-view and a side-view of the same and Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are respectively a frontview, a rear-view and a side-view of a modified construction of the bow.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the views.

Referring to the drawings, a represents the pendant of a ladys or other watch such as are ordinarily suspended from a' chatelaine brooch-pin or similar device. I) is a bow which is applied either directly to the pendant or to a swivel a on the pendant, as shown in Fig. 4. d is a crown of the ordinary construction for winding up the movement. T o the rear-part of the bow b is applied at one side a pin-tongue b and to the other side a catch 1), the pin-tongue being hinged to the bow, so as to form a chatelaine-brooch with the same.

The watch bow provided with means for direct attachment with the garment, permits of the'pivotal suspension of the watch body so that it can be swung up for inspection of the face but avoids the lateral swinging motion incident to its pendency from a brooch In place of the ordinary bow I), an ornamental bow l) may be used, as shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6. In this case the pin-tongue b and catch are applied to opposite sides of the ornamental bow which is pivoted to the swivel a By a bow of ornamental shape, a chatelaine brooch-bow is obtained which is as ornamental as the ordinary brooch-pin, but which has the advantage that the free swinging motion of the watch and the rubbing motion against the garment are dispensed with; that the scratching of the lid on the back of the case and the impairing of its highly-finished surfaces is done away with, and that, mainly, the watch keeps better time as the motion of the escapement is not.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A watch bow adapted to pivotally suspend a watch body said bow being provided with means for direct attachment thereof to a garment.

2. A watch bow adapted to pivotally suspend a watch body, and provided with means for direct attachment thereof to a garment said means comprising a pin tongue hinged at one end to said. bow and a catch disposed on said bow and adapted to engage and hold the other end of said hinged tongue.

A watch bow adapted to pivotally suspend. a watch body, said bow being laterally expanded andprovided with means for direct attachment thereof to a garment.

4. A watch bow adapted to pivotally suspend a watch body, and comprising loops one of which is provided with a pin tongue hinged thereto and another with a catch for engaging and holding said pin tongue in closed position.
