ARTIFIOIAL BAIT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1908.
Application filed. March 5, 1908. Serial Il'o. 419',324.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST A. PFLUEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit,.State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Artificial Bait, of which the ollowin is a specification.
y invention relates to bait for luring fish, and more particularly to that class known as artificial minnows, and has for its object to provide certain improvements in the construction of the same as will be hereinafter more definitely pointed out and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an artificial minnow embodying my improved construction. Fi 2 is a top plan view of the same, the hea and tail thereof being shown in section.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the two views.
In the said drawing the reference numeral 1 denotes the body of the minnow, the same being formed of a single piece of material folded and united, by stitching or otherwise, longitudinall along the back, as shown at 2.
ibi m this body 1 of water-proofed si k, linen or other flexible fabric, and, instead of decorating the same with paint applied by hand, as has been the practlce heretofore, I lithograph or print the material with the desired design prior to its formation into the article. In this manner I can not only imitate the various colors and shadings of the natural minnow more accurately and vatless expense than can be done by hand, but will also render the articles more flexible, and will obviate all danger of peeling or cracking of the applied ornamentatiom The body 1 is connected to the head 3 of the minnow by applying the same to the neck 4 thereof and fastening it thereto by means of the wrapping 5 in the usual manner.
11 of the side hooks 12 and the line 13 of the tail hook 14. i
In my improved construction the tail end of the minnow is left open at 15 whereby the formation of apocket at that point is prevented, and whereby the water that passes into the body 1 through the mouth'6 can pass as freely out through said tail end, thereby inflating the body 1 and causing air bubbles to rise to the surface of the water in a more natural imitation of a live minnow. The tail 16, instead of being formed separate from the body 1, is formed integral therefpreferably co-extensive in width I claim as new and desire to secure by Let .ters Patent is:
1. An artificial minnow, embodying a body portion, and a head portion, sai head portion having an open mouth communicating freely with. said body lportion, and said body portion having its ta' end entirely open to permit the unrestricted passage of water therethrough.
2. An artificial minnow, embodying a body portion, a head portion, and a tail portion,
said head portion havin an 0 en mouth communicating freely wit said odyportion, said body portion having its tail end entirely open to ermit the unrestricted passageof water t erethrough, and said tail portion being formed integral with said body portion and being co-extensive in width with one of the side portions of said body portion.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscriblng witnesses.
ERNEST A. PFLUEGER.
