To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE A. BRINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Helen, in the county of Columbia and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Cap Removers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention consists of a simple form of opening device for receptacles, and comprises essentially a small and handy appliance particularly designed to be readily carried in the pocket and so constructed as to admit of readily removing caps of bottles, or the like.

In order that the device comprising the invention may be readily carried in the pocket, said device is peculiarly constructed so as to admit of folding together certain parts which would otherwise project and prevent the user from keeping the device upon his person, conveniently.

Not only is the invention designed for the purpose of forming a convenient means for removing caps of bottles, etc., but the construction of the cap removing means is such as to provide a simple and desirable means to be used as a cigar cutter, as will be more For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following detail description, and to the accompanying drawings, in which:

The construction of this invention will be very readily understood, and referring to the drawings the numeral 1 indicates a band or ring adapted to fit over a finger of the hand, this member being open or split, so to speak, and having its end bent outwardly to form spaced extensions 2 arranged in a plane substantially at a right angle to the plane of the body of the ring. The spaced extensions 2 are greater in length than the Width of the body of the band or ring, projecting at the ends beyond the opposite edges thereof. extensions constitute pivot ears between and to which is pivotally secured a member 5 which constitutes a hook or blade. The pivot securing the member 5 to the extensions 2 is indicated at 7.

Whenin normal operative position the member 5 extends outwardly from the extensions 2 at substantially a right angle thereto and is held firmly from movement in one direction by means of oppositely extending lugs 6 arranged to abut with the outer edges of the ears 4. Said member 5, however, is movable freely in a pivotal manner towards the extensions 2, whereby the hook and blade may be adjusted or folded so as to occupy some of the space between the extensions 2, and not project far therefrom. The folded position of the hook and blade member 5 is indicated in Fig. 4 and it will be observed that the inner edge of this member, which is sharpened as indicated at 5 to form a knife edge is protectedand housed. The outer edge of member 5 may be notched as indicated at 8 to provide a means for readily engaging the member with the finger nail or finger in order to move the same into its projected position.

In actual use the band or ring is placed overone of the fingers of the hand, the hook 5 engaged with the cap at the lower edge of the latter, and the device is then forced upwardly with the fulcrum member 3 bearing against the top of the cap and removal of the cap is then effected. The inner ed e of the hook 5 being sharpened admits o readily severing the butt end of a cigar preparatory to smoking the same and it will be apparent that the invention may be very advantageously used by smokers, aside from its desirable features as a bottle opening device.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is,

j 1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a band having the end portions thereof bent outwardly to form extensions arranged in spaced relation, corresponding ends of said extensions forming a fulcrum member, and a hook extending from the other ends of the extensions and foldable therebetween.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a band having the end portions thereof bent outwardly to form extensions arranged in s aced relation, corresponding ends of sai extensions forming a fulcrum member, and a hook extendin from the other ends of the extensions and fo dable therebetween, the inner edge portion of the hook being formed with a knife edge whereby said hook comprises a cutting element in the manner described.

3. As an article of manufacture, a cap removing device consisting of a band having end portions thereof bent outwardly to form spaced extensions arranged at a right angle to a plane including the body of the band,

opposite ends of the extension projecting outwardly from the edges of the band, corresponding ends of said extensions forming a fulcrum member, a hook pivoted to corresponding opposite ends of the extensions and arranged to fold toward the space hetween the extensions, and lugs formed with said hook to limit the outward movement thereof in adjusting the same.

4. As an article of manufacture, a cap remover and cutter device consisting of a band having end portions thereof bent outwardly to form spaced extensions arranged at a right angle to a plane including the body of the band, opposite ends of the extension rojecting outwardly from the edges of the band, corres onding ends of said extensions forming a fu crum member, a hook pivoted to corresponding 0 posite ends of the extensions and arranger to fold toward the space between the extensions, and lugs formed with said hook to limit the outward move ment thereof in adjusting the same, the inner edge of the hook being sharpened for cooperation with the outer edges of the extensions for cutting purposes.

5. As a new article of manufacture, the combination of a band provided with spaced extensions projecting therefrom, ends of said extensions comprising a fulcrum member, and a hook pivoted to the extensions and foldable therebetween.

6. As a new article of manufacture, the combination of a band provided with spaced extensions projecting therefrom, ends of said extensions comprising a fulcrum member, and a hook pivoted to the extensions and foldable therebetween, and the inner edge of the hook being sharpened to form a cutter in cooperation with the extensions.
