Description
PATENTED MAY 19, 1908 RS.
FOR RAILWA Huge/1907.
. J. A. M YE DOUBLE NECKBD RAIL APPLICATION FILED J JOHN AUGUST MYERS, OF BR ADDOCK, PENNSYLVANIA.
DOUBLE- TECMD RAIL FOR RAILWAYS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 19, 1908.
Application flied June 29,- 1907. Serial No. 881,565.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN AUGUST MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Braddock, county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and use ful Double Necked Rail for Railways, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements on double necked rails for railways to be made in different sizes showing the possibility of rolling them as indicated in Fi ure 2 of this drawing. 1 attain this object by the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1, is the end view of the finished rail. Fig. 2, is also the end view showing the position of the rail during the rolling rocess whereby the recess e, is iormedon ottom plate 0, and the formation of the two necks which will leave a hollow space between the two, when the same are pressed into their re-.
spective places. I Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Fig. 1, gives the end view of the finished rail with the two necks marked a, & b, forming the hollow space between the two necks, the foot plate 0, of the rail showing the recess 6, on the same, formed by the corner f, bottom. plate for receiving the lower inside edge of neck I), and the ressed. corner d,
which later will be comp eted in the last on the marked it, all plainly shown in these. figures and described. I
Fig. 2, shows the position of the rail during rolling and how the head i, is placed to the side so that the hollow space becomes larger and the neck a, higher fully as described, the dotted lines in these figures indicating the shape of the rail formed in the last pass of rollers when finished substantially as set forth. y
l am aware that rior to my invention double necked rails or railways have been made, I therefore do not claim such a combination broadly but What]. do claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is, p
A rail having double necks spaced apart, a head, and a recessed bottom late, one of said necks being continuous wit the bottom plate and head and the other extending from the head and adapted to be received in the recess of the bottomplate and be compressed therein, substantially as set forth.
JOHN AUGUST MYERS. -Witnesses:
AUGUST ROY,
FRITZ ANDERSON.
