To all whom it may concern: Be it knownthat I, ANTHONY W. Losn- BOUGH, a citizen oftheUnit'ed States, residing 'atthe village of Sturgi's, county of St. Joseph, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Carriages, of which the-following isa specification,
This invention relates to improvements in childrens carriages. It relates particularl .to improvements in folding carriages suc as are commonly designated as go-carts,
although certain features are adapted for use in other relations.v
The main object of this invention is to ,provide an improved folding carriage of the class described which is adapted to fold details of construction, will definitely appear compactly and one in which the foot rest can I beadjusted bygneans of the adjustable back. 2o

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention isclearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which: i
Figure 1 is a vertical section of my imroved carriage taken on a line correspondmg to line 1-1 of Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines, one adjustment of the back being indicated by dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a corresponding detail vertical section of the carriage folded or collapsed; and Fig. 3 is a detail rear elevation.
In the drawings, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the side pieces 1 of the frame are relatively fixed or rigid and are provided with a handle at their upper ends. These side pieces are preferably curved downwardly and forwardly at their lower ends, as clearly appears in Fig. 1, to carry the axles for the forward wheels. The side pieces 2 are pivotally connected to the side pieces 1 by the pivots 3. The side pieces 2 are made up of sections 4 and 6. The meeting ends of the sections 4 and 6 are overlapped and secured together by the pivot 8, the ends of the meeting sections 4 and 6 being provided with laterally projecting arms 5 and 7 respectively, the ivot 8 being located between the arms. he spring 9 is connected to the arms 5 and 7 so that on the movement of the sections on their connecting pivots stress is put on the pivots, thereby providing a spring, support for the rear axle.
'A pair of side rails 10, having longitudinal slots 11 therein, are pivotall y mounted on the fixed side pieces 1. by means of a suitable pivot rod as 13. The hooks 12 on the upper ends of the side pieces 2 are engaged in the slots 11 of the side rails 10, the hooks being adapted to slide back and forth in these slots as the carriage is collapsed or erected, the outer ends of the side rails swinging upward vwhen the carriage is collapsed, as clearly appears in Fig. 2.
A pair of side bars 14, which are adapted to serve as arms for the seat of the carriage, are pivoted to the side pieces 1 at 15, and are connected to the forward ends of the side rails by means of the links 16, the links bein secured. to the side bars by means of the pivots 17 and to the rails by means of the pivots 18. Mounted on these pivots 18 are a pair of arms 19 on which the foot rests 20 are mounted by means of the pivots 21 The supporting arms 19 are preferably connected by a brace bar 22. The seat 23 is carried by the rails 10, the back 24, the frame only of which is here illustrated, is pivotally mounted on the pivot rod 13 by which the side rails are connected to the slde pieces as stated.
The back 24 is provided with a pair of arms 25 which project downwardly and rearwardly from the pivots 13, and these arms are connected by the L-shaped links 26 to the supporting arms 19 for the foot rest, the links being connected to the lower end of the arms 25 by means of the pivots 27 and to the foot rest carrying arms by means of the pivots 28. The back is adjustably su ported b the bail-shaped support 29, t e ends of w ich are mounted on the inner ends of the pivots 15, by which the side bars are connected to the side pieces 1 of the frame. The support 29 is preferably formed of wire and provided with return. bends 30 at its inner end, which are adapted to engage over the laterally projecting pins 31 on the back for securing the back in its inner position.

I thus, by a very simple means, secure an effective adjustable support for the back. The outer ends of the pins 31 are supported by the straps 35 on the side pieces of the back 24, which also serve as retainers for the side pieces of the back support.
The foot rest is preferably provided with rearwardly projecting fingers 36 adapted when the structure is collapsed to engage the lugs 37 on the side rails, whereby the foot rest is folded or rocked up on its pivot.
I not only, by this arrangement, secure a collapsible carriage having a foot rest and back ada ted to be adjusted together, but one which folds very compactly, as will be obvious by a reference to Fig. 2 of the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a collapsible carriage, the combination with the downwardly and forwardly projecting fixed side pieces, having a handle at their upper ends, of adjustable side pieces arranged across and pivoted to the said fixed side pieces; axles carried by said side pieces; side rails to which said adjustable side pieces are slidably connected pivotally mounted on said fixed side pieces; side bars pivotall connected to said fixed side pieces; vertical y-arratnged links connected to the forward ends of said side rails and side bars; a foot rest; supporting arms therefor pivotallyzsmounted on connecting pivots for said lin to said side rails; a seat carried by said side rails; a back pivotally mounted on the connecting pivots for said side rails to said fixed side pieces, said back having arms projecting rearwardly and downwardly beyond the pivots thereof; Lshaped links pivotally connected to said arms on said back and to said foot rest carrying arms; pins on said back, and a bail-like support for said back pivotally mounted on the connecting pivots for said side bars to said fixed side pieces, said support having return bends adjacent to its pivots and loop-like bends in the side pieces thereof, said bends bein adapted to engage the said pins on said bac r, for adjustab y sup orting the same, said support also having s oulder-like offsets adjacent to the outer end or cross-piece thereof, for the purpose slplecified.

4. In a collapsible carriage, the combination with the downwardly and forwardlyprojecting fixed side pieces, having a handle at their upper ends, of adjustable side pieces arranged across and pivoted to said fixed side pieces; axles carried by said side pieces; side rails to which said adjustable side pieces are slidably connected pivotally mounted on said fixed side pieces; vertically arranged links pivotally connected to the forward ends of said side rails and side bars; a foot rest pivotally mounted on connecting pivots for said links to said side rails; a seat carried by said side rails; a back pivotally mounted on the connecting pivots for said side rails of thereof said fixed side pieces, said back having arms projecting downwardly beyond the pivots inks pivotally connected to saidarms on said back and to said foot rest, and
means for adjustably supporting said back, for the purpose specified.
5. 6.
