When this construction of cross-bearer is employed the two channel-iron men'lbers may be slightly separated to receive the end fthe truss 18 between them,-in which case the top flange of the truss may be removed, as shown in Fig. 5, or the channel iron members may be placed back to back "and the truss secured to the bottom flanges.
