in a relatively short are subjected to the; actions: a suitable and it has for its Obj. to provide a device of this character that is capable of polishing or hurnisliing a considerablequantity of jewelry time, the receptacle for the jewelry being immersed in a suitable cleansing solution and having its interior so formedthat the articles being operated on are subjected to a tumbling and. rolling action that will insure the exposure of everysurface thereof to the polishing medium, so that uniformity in "the polishing and burnisliing is secured.
Furthermore, it has for its object to pro-. vide a deviceof thisch'aracter that is so simpic that it may be constructed. cheaply and is not liable to need repairs, and therece tacle for the articles to be olished is readi yaccessible and remov abl to permit introduc-' tion and removal of the articles before and after the polishing and burnishing operation.
To these and other ends, the invention comprises the various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinaf= tor-more fully described and ointed out particularly in theclaiins ap enc edhereto.

in the present instance, a tank 1 of any desired or suitable dimensions and provided with a 'lid2 for controlling access thereto, the tank being supported on legs or other means ol' support 3. 7 7
The receptacle for the articles to be polished or burnished is mounted to 0 create uithin the-tank, the receptacle embodying, in
the present instance, a hollow box or casing 4 preferably of .a polygonal form, the box shown in the present instance being in the form of a hexagon. One of thesides, as 5, is hinged at its edges, as at 6,in order to permit access to the box or receptacle in order to permit introduction or removal of the objects to be polished. relatively thereto, some suit.- able means such as a catch30 being preferably rovided for securing the door thus provide'd in closed position during the polishing or burnishing operation. The sides of the box are provided with one or more openings 7 covered by a ire net or gauze 8 to permit entrance and exit of the washing or cleansing solution, the wire gauze or mesh serving to prevent loss of the jewelry or other articles. The inner surfaces of thesides of the box or receptacle are provided each with a plurality of inwardly extending ribs 9, the ribs 011 one side of the box having a'pitch or inclination toward one end of the box, While those on the next adjacent side have an inclination or pitch leading toward the opposite end of the box, the ends of the several ribs of each series abutting those of the next series to .form substantially continuous zig-zag ribs texte'nding around the inner side of the box or receptacle.
The rear head of thebox is provided with an axially arranged trunnion 10 having a j ournal thereon adapted to cooperate with the conical recess 11 formed in a bearing block 12, the latter being secured to the rear of the tank. The other head of the box is provided with a trunnion 13 having a reduced'end. 14 that is angular in cross section, the end of this trunnion in the present instance being square and forming a shank adapted to fit tending inwardly from the outer end'of a crankarni 16, the latter, being provided at its inner end with a collar portion 17 adapted to trunnion to piovid'e'an operating shank, a

-The latch shown in the present embodiment of the invention comprises a 1 *nl sprin 21 rig-idly fixed at one end by the screws 22 to one side of the crank arm t6, the free end of the spring being provided with a pawl or dog 23 which extends laterally over the outer end 'of the crank arm and theslot formed therein, and serves to cooperate with the angular shank when the latter is operativelv connected to the crank arm, the outer side of thispavvl being preferably beveled, as at 24, to form a cam surface to ()OtlPtlittQ with the shank as t e latter is applied to titer-rank arm, the latch being thereby deflected interally to permit the shank to enter the recess, the pawl on the latch s ')ringing over the shank to lock it therein. What is claimed is:
