ADJUSTABLE METALLIC SCREEN-FASTENER.
No. 881,061. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented March 3, 1908.
Application med'aprii 22, 1907. serial No. 369,664.
To all whom 'it lfm1/y concern: Each of the corner pieces consists of an outer Be it known that I, LAWRENCE K. DEVLIN,` face plate 4 and a right-angularly disposed a citizen of the United States, residing at side plate 5 which forms the edge of the frame. Havre, in the county of Chouteau and State The face plate 4 of the corner sections or 5 of Montana, have invented certain new and pieces of the frame are preferably bent in- 60 useful Improvements in Adjustable Metallic wardly as shown at 6 to present an ornamen- Screen-Fasteners;' and I do declare the foltal appearance and to form a su port for the lowing to' be a full, clear, and exact descri screen 7 which is engaged with t e inner side tion of the invention, such as will enab e thereof as shown. In the face plates 4 are lo others skilled in the 'art to which it appertains formed a series of screen engaging spurs 8 65 j to make and use the same. which are adapted to be en aged with the This invention relates to adjustable metalscreen adjacent to its outer edges to securelyT lic screen frames. hold the same in place after the frame has 'The object of the invention is to provide a been adjusted..
screen frame which may be quickly and easily The inner edges of the side lates 5 of the 70 adjusted to fit various sizes of doors or w1nscreen are turned inwardly to orrn flanges 9 dow frames, means being rovided whereby which will 'hereinafter be described. The the screen is firmly secured) in the frame and flanges 9 on the sections or pairs of corners means whereby the-latter is braced. pieces 3 are adapted to receive the flanged With the foregoing and other objects in Vedges of the opposite corner ieces or sections 75 view which will appear as the nature of the 2 whereby said sections are eld in telescopic invention is better understood, the invention engagement with each other. In the oppoconsists in certain novel features of consite ends of the corner pieces or sections 3 struction, combination and arrangement of are formed pairs of longitudinally-disposed parts as will be hereinafter fully-described slots 10 which arel adapted to be engaged by 80 and claimed. retaining bolts or rivets' 12 which are passed Y In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is through bolt-holes 13 in the engagin ends of a plan view of one side of a screen frame and the corner pieces or sections 2, said olts adscreen constructed in accordance with the justably connecting the ends of said sections invention; Fig. 2 is a similar view of the opor corner pieces together and also serving to 35 posite side, parts of the same being broken llimit the outward movement of the sections away; Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional and thereby prevent the same from being view through the adjusted telescoping ends pulled entirely apart'. v ofthe side pieces forming one side of the On the inner sides of the sections or corner frame; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective vview of pieces 2 and 3 of the frame are arranged 9'0 4one of the pieces forming one corner of the binding and fastening strips 14 forithe edges frame; Fig. 5 is a similar view of one ofthe of the screen. The strips 14 for each side pieces forming the opposite corners of the and end ofthe screen are formed -in two ame; 6 1s a perspective view of one of pieces, the inner ends of which overlap and 40 the screen clamping strips; Fig. 7 is a similar slide upon each other when the sections of 95 view of the companlon strip ofthe one shown the frame are adjusted. The strips 14 are in Fig. 6; Fig. 8 is a detail cross-sectional formed on their outer edges with right-anguview through one side of the frame showing larly bent retaining flanges 15 which are the arrangement of the screen engaging and adapted to be engaged with the inwardly '45 retaining spurs and FigfQ is an lnner side turned anges 9'on the inner edges 'of the 100- view of one of the adjustable vmembers or corner sections Ur pieces of the frame; The
bars of the screen.- strips 14 are further secured to the face plates j Referring more particularly to the draw- 4 by fastening bolts or rivets 16 which *areings, 1 denotes the wi dow or door screen passed through alined apertures formed in frame which consists of two pairs offrightthe strips 14 and the face plates4 of the frame 105 angularly formedV corner pieces 2 and 3, the sections. The inner end of one member or v ends .of which are adapted to be slidingly or piece of each of the side and end strips 14 is telescopically engaged with each other, theref notched out'or recessed on its inner v'edge as by providing for the adjustment o fjthe s ame shown at 17 to clear the fastening boltsv or to form a. screen frame of variousl sizes. rivets 12 arranged in the inner ends of the 110 are adjusted.
strips lla, thus ermitting said stri s to be slipped apart w en Arranged on'each side of the screen. midway between the ends 0I the same are adjustable brace bars 18, said bars being preferably in the form of iat telescoping sections, the outer ends of which are secured to the face plates 4 on one side of the screen frame'and to the fastening strips 14 'on the opposite side of the frame by means of the bo ts 12- which adjustably connect the inner ends ofthe frame sections together. The telescoping sections of the bars 18 are secured in their adjusted position by means of a bolt 19`which 1s adapted to be passed through an aperture in one of the sections of the brace bars and throu h an elongated y notch or recess 20 former? in the opposite section of the brace bar.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. A screen frame consisting of right-anularly formed corner sections, means wherey the opposite ends of said corner sections are adjustably connected with each other, fastening bolts arranged through the engaging ends of said sections to secure the same in their adjusted positions, screen retainin spurs formed on said sections to engage an hold'the screen, screen fastening strips ar.- ranged on the sides of said frame sections,
telescopin vbrace bars arranged across 'the' screen an lconnected at' theiriends to the sections of the screen frame, and means to detachably secure said stripsin place to fasten the edges of the screen, substantially asdescribed. -V
4 2. A. Ascreen frame consisting of right-angularljT formed, adjustably connected corner pieces, said pieces comprising an. ornamental face plate and right-angularly bent side plates which form the edges of the frame,
inwardly bent retaining lianges formed on the sections of t e frame the inner edges of said side plates, and rightangularly formed screen fastening strips adapted to be en .aged'with said retaining flanges to fasten t 1e edges of the screen-to the sections of the frame, substantially as described.
A screen frame consisting of right-angularly formed adjustably connected pairs of corner sections, one pair 'of said sections having formed in their o posite ends elongated slots, fastening bo ts adapted to be engaged with said slots and with bolt holes formed in the ends of the opposite pair of corner sections Whereb said sections are fse-y cured in their adju'ste4 positions, screenengaging s urs formed on said sections, anda ser1es o adjustableV screen fastening stri s fastening strips and adapted to" be engaged with the retaining flanges of said sections on the frame, adjustable brace barsarranged on each side of the frame and secujred at their op o 'site ends to the engaging ends of the s1 es of the frame and means to secure the adapted to be secured to the sections of t e j sections 'of the adjustable brace bars in their
