Description

Mw-@mmm- L. H. ROGERS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR- TO HIM- SELF' AND GEORGE A. ROGERS, OF TI-IE SAME PLACE.
Ltuawrs'lmm No. 88,077, dated Mwmh 23, 1869.
IMPROVE!) TOILET-MIRROR.
The Schedule referred to :ln these Letters Patent and-making part of the same.
' toilet-mirror.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same,
taken on the plane of the line a; st, g. 1.
Figure 3 is an edge view of the same.`
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts." This invention relates to a new toilet-mirror, of that class in which a portion can be swung out, to reflect, into the main mirror, the reverse of the gure placed between the two; land The invention consists in a novel manner of connecting the Amain with the reecting-mirror, whereby the latter can be swung any desired distance from the main mirror, and turned in any desired direction, or placed above the main mirror, as may -be required.
The reflecting-mirror is swivelled to a jointed rod, which can slide in or on a bar, pivoted to the main mirror.
When the bar is in a vertical direction, the rod is let down as far as possible, andthe reiiecting-mirror will then be held vertically above the main mirror.
When, however, the bar is swung forward, the rod can be drawn out at will, and the reflecting-mirror turned in any desired direction to reect, into the main mirror, the side or back of the gure placed between them.
A, in the drawing, represents a toilet-mirror of suitable size and form, fitted' into a suitable frame, B.
To the top of this frame, is, by a hinge, a, secured a bar, O, which is slotted or tubular, or provided with guide-straps, to support a sliding, or extension-rod, D, which eanbe pushed down, as in iig. 2, or drawn out of O, as in g. 3.
To the outer end of therod D, is hinged a short plate, l E,'to which, by means of a swivel-pin, b, the reiiectingmirror F is secured.
The bar C can be swung forward in a horizontal position, as in iig. 3, or inclined,'as may be desired.
It may be provided with a suitable device to regulate the degree of inclination. The rod D is then drawn out as far as desired. y 4
The hinge c of the plate E, is so arranged, that the `#said plate may swing intoline with the rod, when the same is swung forward, as shown.
The mirror F is then suspended onthe extensiona'rm O D E, in front of the main mirror A, and can, on the swivel-pin b, be turned in any desired direction.
When the mirror F is not to be especially used, it is placed upon the main mirror,'as in figs. l and 2.
This is done by pushing the rod D as' far as possible into C, when it will reach behind the mirror A, tobrace the extension-mirror in the upright position, as in iig. 2. The plate E is swung forward to suspend the mirror F above A, as is clearly shown in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim asv new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the hinged bar O, sliding rod D, hinged plate E, and swivel-pin' b, for connecting a reiiecting-mirror, F, with the main mirror A, all arranged and operating substantially as herein shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed'by me, this 6th day of February, 1869.
