Description

DIEDRIGH MEINEN, OF WALHALLA, TEXAS.
IMPLEMENT FOR CRUSHING CLODS or EARTH, &c.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1908.
Application filed October 12. 1907. Serial No. 397.207.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DIEDRICH MEINEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Walhalla, in the county of Fayette and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Implements for Crushing Clods of Earth, 850. and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in implements for crushing clods of earth, etc, and comprises a simple and efficient device of this character so arranged that the foot which carries the spikes or teeth may be held at different angles for convenience in operation.
Theinvention comprises various other details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 1s a perspective view of the implement. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the device, and Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view showing two of the parts disassembled.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a plate which may be of any suitable material, preferably metal, and is provided with integral bosses A projecting from one face thereof and each boss is provided. with a threaded aperture for the reception of an adjusting screw B. Said plate has apertures extending through the same and each boss, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and each aperture is preferably angular in outline and adapted to receive the spikes C which conform to the shape of the aperture in the bosses in which they are held by said set screw. Adjustably held to said plate is an integral shank D which is forked having two arms D, the upper end of each arm having a widened portion provided with a curved slot E, and F designates a screw passing through said slots and also through an aperture G in the handle H, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. Winged nuts K are mounted upon the threaded ends of said screw and are adapted to frictionally engage the outer face of each arm D to hold the handle in an adjusted position. Said handle has lugs O projecting from the opposite faces thereof near its lower end and which are pivotally mounted in registering apertures in the wings D, shown clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
Upon reference to Fig. 3 of the drawings, it will be noted that said shank D is provided with an hexagonal outline shoulder Q from which projects a screw R and the plate A has an hexagonal outline aperture (1 for the reception of said shoulder. While the drawing shows said shoulder of hexagonal outline, it will, of course, be understood that the sh0ulder may be of any angular outline and the aperture made of similar outline to receive the shoulder, the purpose being to allow the shank portion to be adjusted at different angles to the plate. A nut or bur T, shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, is mounted upon the threaded end of the screw R and serves to hold the shank to the plate.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that, by the provision of the construction of an implement as set forth, means is afforded whereby the device may be held at various angles, adapting the same for use under different conditions, the head of the device being capable of adjustment in two different directions.
What I claim to be new is 1. A clod crushing device comprising a plate having teeth adjustably held thereon, a shank adjustably fixed to said plate, and a handle pivoted to said shank, as set forth.
2. A clod crushing device comprising a plate having an angular outline opening therein, a shank having a shoulder of angular outline conforming to the angular outline in which it is held, teeth adjustably fixed to said plate, and a handle pivoted to said shank, as set forth.
3. A clod crushing device comprising a plate having an angular outline opening therein, a shank having a shoulder of angular outline conforming to the angular outline in which it is held, teeth adjustably fixed to said plate, said shank being forked, a handle having lugs journaled in the arms of said forked member, and means for holding the handle at different angles to the shank, as set forth.
4. A clod crushing device comprising a plate having an angular outline opening therein, a shank having a shoulder of angular outline conforming to the angular outline in which it is held, teeth adjustably fixed to said plate, said shank being forked, a handle having lugs journaled in the arms of said forked member, the free ends of the arms of the forked member having curved slots, a screw passing through said slots, and an aperture in the handle, and adjusting nuts upon the threaded ends of said screw adapted to hold the handle in an adjusted position, as set forth.
5. A device for crushing clods comprising a plate having integral bosses with apertures therein, adjusting screws held in said bosses,
spikes engaging the bosses and held by said screws, a shank on said plate having an angular outline shoulder and a screw projecting therefrom, said shoulder adapted to engage an angular outline opening in said plate, a bur fitted to said screw, and a handle pivotally and adjustably connected to said shank, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
DIEDRICH MEINEN.
