To all whom it may concern:

a citizen of the United States, and resident of Boston, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Heel Rests or Supports for Displaying Shoes, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is

a specification, like letters on the drawing,

representing like parts.

This invention has for its object the production of a heel rest or support for displaying high-heeled shoes, whereby the tendency of the shoe to fall over, due to the small and narrow heel tread, is obviated and the shoe held steadily in position for display purposes.

It is now a very common practice to insert. in womens low shoes or slippers, when displayed in show windows, a form having an attached leg portion, on which is drawn a stocking, to improve the appearance of the exhibit, and the upstanding leg portion of the form makes the shoe top-heavy, so that it is rather difficult to keep the display in proper condition, the shoe falling over on its side at the slightest touch. This is particularly the case when the shoe is provided with a high heel, the tread being so narrow and the center of gravity of the shoe and its form so high that in many cases .it will not stand upright.

In my present invention I provide a detachable heel rest or support, comprising a flat body and lateral extensions thereon, and

means to detachably connect the body with the heel. l/Vhen so connected the body supports the heel tread and the extensions form a broad support or rest, so that the shoe will stand firmly and securely in displayed position, even with a form inserted therein having an upright leg portion of considerable height.

The novel features of my invention will be fully described in the subjoined specification and particularly pointed out in the following claims.

Referring to Fig. 1, I have shown a low shoe or slipper A having a high heel A, and

l l l the form F in the shoe, provided with an up turned leg portion F (shown broken off in Fig. l to save space) upon which it is cus-* tomary to display a stocking, to enhance the appearance of the exhibit. The upturned (30 leg portion of the form carries the center of gravity high above the surface upon which the shoe rests, and the bottom or tread of the heel is so small and narrow that it is very difficult to maintain the shoe in upright position. in carrying out my invention 1 make the flat body 1 of the heel rest of thin, still metal or other suitable material, having lateral extensions 2 herein shown as rearwardly projecting at'their extremities, as at 3, the whole forming a laterally elongated flat support or rest. The rear edge of the body is curved, as at 1, and provided with upright projections or lugs 5, while at the front of the body opposite the lugs 5 a third lug (5 is provided, having a threaded hole to receive a clamping member, shown as a screw 7 having an enlarged head 8. The clamping member is retracted, and the body 1 is applied to the tread of the heel, see Fig. 1, with the back of the heel against the lugs 5, the extensions 2 projecting laterally from opposite sides of the heel. The clamping member 7 is then set up against the heel-breast c by means of the head 8, firmly clamping the heel rest upon the heel, and the effective tread of the latter is now the entire flat under surface of the heel rest, as will be manifest. By means of the broad and iirm bearing thus provided the shoe is maintained in upright position and restrained from tipping, the particular size of the actual tread of the heel of the shoe being wholly eliminated as a factor in maintaining the shoe and its contained form upright. A considerable adjustment for different sizes of heels may be effected by proper adjustment of the clamping memher 7, as will be obvious. There is nothing to imar or scratch the most highly polished or finished heel, and the heel rest can be applied or removed in an instant. By turning rearward the extremities 3 of the extensions 2 I provide a more stable support without increasing the material of which the heel rest is composed.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A heel rest for displaying shoes, co1nprising a thin, flat body having lateral and rearwardly turned extensions, and a plurality of separated positioning members on the body, one of said members being movable manually relatively to the body, said members detachably engaging the breast and back portions of the heel and retaining the latter on the body with the tread of the heel resting on the body, the extensions on the latter preventing tipping.

2. A heel rest for displaying shoes, comprising a flat body having lateral and rearwardly turned extensions, upright lugs on the body to engage the back of the heel of a shoe, and an oppositely located clamping device on the body to detachably engage the heel-breast, the heel tread resting on the body and being restrained from tipping by the extensions.

3. A heel rest for displaying shoes, comprising a flat body having lateral extensions and on which body the tread of a heel is adapted to rest, fixed upright projections on the body, to receive Within them the bottom of the heel, and an adjustable clamping member on one of said projections, the back and breast portions of the heel being engaged at a plurality of points and clamped between the projections and the clamping member.
