CARRIER-FRAME FOR BASKETS.

To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that 1, JAMES H. CAMERON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the county of Lamar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carri'enFrames for Baskets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to new and useful improvements in carrier frames for baskets employed in stores for what is known as the basket system and has for its object to provide means whereby all liability of the cable or rope employed for raising and lowering a basket to and from the track becoming caught or entangled in the wheels of the carrier frame is eliminated and also whereby liability of the carrier frame jumping or leaving the track is reduced to a minimum.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction of ro e or cable employed to raise and lower t e basket to or from the track which cannot slip from under the carrier frame wheels.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of one end of a track and support therefor with a carrier frame constructed in accordance with the invention lowered from the track and supported by cable or rope employed to raise or lower it; Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the carrier frame looking in the direction indicated by arrows; Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 Fig. 4 is aperspective view of one end of the rope or cable employed to raise or lower the basket; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view of one of the side members of the carrier frame.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the track, 2 a support for one end thereof, 3 the rope or cable employed to raise or lower the basket to or from the track and 4 the carrier frame.
As shown in the drawings, and in accordance with the invention, the carrier frame comprises two separable side members 5 and 6. The side member 5 is of well-known form or construction having depending portions 7 to facilitate its attachment to a basket and a plurality preferably three of laterally-projecting interiorly threaded lugs or fastening members 8 on its inner face in termediate of its ends. The other side member 6 which constitutes the principal part of my improvement is preferably of greater length than the side member 5 preferably comprising a central straight portion and enlarged substantially circular end portions 10 of a diameter somewhat greater than the carrier frame wheels and is removably secured in position to 'the side member 5- by screws 11 working through corresponding apertures or perforations 12 in its central straight portion and screwing in the interiorly threaded laterally projecting lugs 8 of the side member 5. Suitable axles 13 are arranged between the side members to which are journaled the carrier wheels 14. The inner face of the side member 6 is provided with recesses or sockets 15 to receive the adjacent ends of the carrier wheel hubs so that they may work close to said sidemember and avoid the spaces that would otherwise occur therebetween. By providing a construction whereby the wheels are caused to work close to the inner face of the side member 6 all possibility of the rope or cable employed to raise or lower the basket to or from the track becoming caught or entangled between said side members and carrier wheels is obviated.
Ribs 16 are formed on the inner face of the frame 5 immediately under the carrier frame wheels to prevent the cable or rope employed to raise or lower the basket to or from the track from becoming caught or entangled between it and said wheels.
Side member 6 is provided at its ends with outwardly extending guard flanges 17 to prevent the carrier frame from jumping or leaving the track. The rope or cable 3 employed for raising or lowering the basket to and from the track is attached at one end to one end of said track in any suitable manner, passes under the wheels of the carrier frame over a pulley 18 arranged a suitable distance above the track and has its free end removably attached or fastened at its body preferably at a point under the carrier frame wheels in the following manner.
An elongated wire coil 19 is slipped over the rope or cable and fastened thereto at the point where it is desirous to attach the free end of the same. A swivel 20 is connected with tlns COll 111 any suitablemanner and supports a fastening screw 21 adapted to be vlated.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying draw ings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a carrier frame, the combination with a side member having a plurality of interiorly threaded laterally-projecting lugs on one face, of wheels journaled to said member outwardly of its lugs, and a second side member having enlarged end portions provided with guard flanges and a plurality of apertures adapted to register with the lugs of said first-mentioned side member and screws working through the apertures in the secondmentioned member and screwing in the lugs of the first-mentioned member for removably fastening said members together.
2. In a carrier frame of the character described, the combination of a side member having spaced axles, of wheels journaled to said axles and a second side member having enlarged end portions with outwardly extending guard flanges and recesses or sockets in its inner face to receive the adjacent ends of the wheel hubs removably positioned to said first mentioned side member.
3. In combination with wheels, side frames arranged on opposite sides of the wheels, one of the frames having ribs formed on its inner face immediately under the wheels and the other having recesses or sockets in its inner face to receive the hubs of the wheels and means for removably securing said frames together.
