, FIREPLACE-HEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 29, 1907.
Application filed February 2. 1907- Serial No. 355.517.
To all whom it "may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY D. FRISBIE, Sr., a citizen of the United States, resident of Cynthiana, in the county of Harrison and State of Kentucky, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Fireplace-Heaters; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of my fire place heater: Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same in a different posi- Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33, Fig. 5. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4- l, Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is a section ,on the line 5-5 Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6-6, Fig. 4.
The invention has relation to fire place heaters, having for its object the provision of improved means of simple and elficient character for application to an open fire place, whereby upper and back or adjoining rooms may also be heated.
With this object in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, illustrating 'the invention, the letter a designates the fire place or inner section of my heater, having vertical side walls b, b, an outward and upward inclined topwall c, a horizontal bottom wall cl, having lateral extensions d at each side beyond the side walls b, b, and a vertical back wall a. Secured to this fire place or inner section is an outside casing f, having an inward and upward inclined top wall f meeting the top wall .0 of the fire place section at the front; vertical side walls 9, g, separated from the side walls b, b, of the inner section by vertical intervals or fiues h, h, at each side, said walls 9, g, resting upon the lateral extensions (1 of the bottom wall of the fire place section, and inward inclined vertical front extensions 1', 1', meeting the side walls of the inner section at the front thereof; a rearward offset vertical quadrangular prismatic extension j, forming the third side of the triangular prismatic drum j formed by the walls 0, f, and the extension j, such extension being open at the rear into the hollow interiorof such drum; and a vertical back wall L, in line with the inner edge of the extension j, and meeting its bottom wall j at right angles.
The back wall it of the casing f is separated from the back wall 2 of the fire place section by a vertical interval or flue I, open at the bottom at Z, and at its open top communicating with the hollow interior of the drum j, over the top of the fire place.
Cold air is admitted underneath the fire place by any suitable means and passes through the perforations d d of the bottom wall of the fire place section, and through the open bottom Z of the flue l, upward within such fine and the lateral fiues h, h, surrounding the three sides of the fire place, into the drum j, the air passing upward in the rear flue Z being deflected forward over the top of the fire place by an outward and upward inclined flange or apron m parallel to the top wall 0 of the fire place, and jutting from the angular intersection of the back wall it of the casing f with the bottom wall j of the extension 7'. This extension 3' has at one end a lateral projection n in line therewith for connection with a vertical flue o at one side of the chimney breast, thus conveying the heated air to the room or rooms above. A rearward projection 19 of the extension j at right angles thereto, is designed to pass through the back wall of the chimney to the adjoining room in the rear, for a further conveyance of the heated air to such room.
The fire place section and easing section, with its rearward extension and other parts are designed to be cast from suitable metal and riveted or otherwise secured together to form a unitary piece which is capable of ready insertion into a fire place, when it is easily connected up with the various rooms. Different sizes of the heater are designed to be made for different sizes of fireplaces.
The smoke passes upward in the fire place along the top wall thereof and thence into the smoke flue which opens at the front of the fire place. 1
Parts of the device may be formed of sheet iron. The quadrangular extension j fits in an opening-of similar size formed in the back wall of the chimney.
Having thus described invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a fire place heater, the combination with a fire place section havingside walls, a rear wall, and an outward and upward inclined top wall, of a casing section having an in ward and upward inclined top wall meeting and secured to the top wall of the fire place section at its outer edge, side walls connected to the top wall thereof and to the side walls of the fire place section at their outer edges, and a rear wall connecting the side walls thereof, said inward and upward inclined top wall and the rear wall of the cats ing section having rearward extensions provided with a connecting rear Wall forming a drum having a rearward offset chamber extension, and the rear Wall of the casing section having a deflecting flange at its top, the chamber extension of the drum having a tubular projection for pip ing connection, such heater having Vertical lateral flues be tween the side walls of the two sections and opening at the .top thereof into the drum, and a vertical rear flue between the rear walls of the two sections and also communicating at the top thereof with the drum.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
