l 1 n j y m M f @mf m .W e /wy/ a? www J 2 f@ w V A m il m NT i e Aw M1 ,0 M M T. WLSON, OF FISHERSVILLE, NE HAMPSHIRE. Leners Patent No. 86,792, dated .February 9, 1869.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, T. O. WILSON, of Fishersville,
in the county ofMerIimack, and State oi New Hampshire, have invented a new and improved Sash-Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following isl a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same,'reference.being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
' This invention 'relates tol an improvement inA sashstops, the object of which is to provide a moreV simple arrangement of spring-bolt for locking the sash in anyposition, all the parts being arranged and attached to a plate, which may be readily attached 'to any window with but little labor.
In the accompanying drawingsv Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of a window, with my improvements attached thereto, the section being taken on the line x'a: ofiig. 2; and
Figure 2 represents a transverse section, taken ou the line y y ofig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. 4
A represents a plate for supporting thespring-bolt, and the operating parts, which is designed to be let into the face ofthe window-fi'ame,-iiush` with the said face, and in front 'of a recess therein, as represented in fig. 1.
B represents a spring-bolt, arranged to work through a hole in the said plate, to engage with holes C, arranged at suitable intervals in the sash, lto be coinci-4 dent with the said hole in the plate, when opposite thereto.
I prefer to provide a projection, D, on the plate, around the said hole, for the better guidance oi' the bolt.
E represents a stud, arranged on one side of the plate, for the support of. a bell-crank, F, one arm of which takes into the rear end ofthe bolt, and the other is provided with a sliding notched arm, G, projecting through the side of the casing into the room, and arranged to be hooked on to the edge of an escutcheonplate, H, through which it passes, to hold it in posi tion when in its innermost position.
The end. of' the said arm, or the end oi the bellcrank to which it is connected, is provided with a coiled spring, I, attached by` one end thereto, and by the other end, to stud, R, also projecting from the plate A, and having a constant tendency to draw the bell-.crank and armG in the direction to keep the bolt B engaged with the holes C of the sash, thereby maintaining it in the locked position.
When it is desired to maintain it in the unlocked position, the notched arm Gr may be hooked on to the escutcheon-plate H, and when not so engaged, the spring will cause the bolt to drop into any one of the holes, as they are brought into coincidence with the bolt, by raising or lowering the sash.
The sash may be either provided with balanceweights, L, or not, as preferred, my improved sashlook, or fastener, being equally applicable to both.
By this arrangement alll the parts of the device, except the escutcheon-plate, are tiXed to the plate A in such a manner that the labor of applying the same to a window is materially sim pliiied.4
I am aware that a spring-bolt, bell-crank, and sliding bar, have heretoibre been combined in a window-fastening, and l do not therefore claim such combination; but
lVha-t I do claim, and desire tov secureby Letters Patent, is
The notched sliding rod G, slotted plate H, bellcrank F, spring I, bolt B, `slotted plate A, and arms E K, constructed and arranged in the manner herein described, for the purpose specified.
' T. O. WILSON. Witnesses:
