Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 86,744, dated February 9, 1869.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, A. O. GANIARD and E. G. GANLARD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ottoman; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawingfmaking part of this specification, in which the figure is a vertical central section of our invention.
The nature of this invention consists in constructing Ottomans in such a manner that they shall retain their proper form and shape without a frame, being provided simply with a board or other suitable bottom, to which the casters may be attached.
To enable others to make our invention, we will describe its construction.
We make a case, A, of carpeting or other suitable material, of any desired shape or style. This case is then placed between two rm metallic molds or cases, (shown in E. G. Ganiards patent ot' August 4,1868.) It is then iilled with excelsior77 or other suitable material, which is pressed down sufficiently solid to secure the retention of the proper shape of the articles while in use.
The bottom board, B, properly shaped, is then inserted, and the edge of the case A secured to it by tacks.
The casters C may be attached to the bottom before it is applied to the ottoman, or after, as may b e most convenient.
This makes a very light and cheap yet per manent anddurable article, far more so than the ordinary ottoman.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
As a new article of manufacture, an ottoman constructed, substantially as herein shown and described, with a case, A, bottoni board, B, and with or without casters C, as and for the purpose specified.
