WILLIAM HERBERT STEVENS, OF TEMPLE, TEXAS.
PHOTOGRAPH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application filed June 4, 1906. Serial No. 320,131,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HERBERT STEVENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Temple, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful PhotographHolder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders for photographs, cards and similar articles and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient device of this character by means of which a card or photograph may be conveniently supported in an upright position so as to effectually display the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder constructed of a single piece of wire or other suitable material bent, molded, or otherwise formed to produce a pair of spaced loops or hooks adapted to receive one edge of the photograph or card and connected by an intermediate horizontally disposed bar adapted to bear against the rear of the photograph and form a support for the latter.
A still further object of the invention is to generally improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency as well as to reduce the cost of manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder constructed in accordance with my invention with a photograph or card in position thereon, showing the manner of supporting the photograph. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder with the photograph detached.
Similar numerals of reference indicate correspond ing parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
The improved device is preferably formed of a single piece of wire an intermediate portion of which is bent to form a pair of spaced supporting members or hooks 5 adapted to receive one edge of the card or photograph indicated at 6, the wire being thence bent upwardly beyond the free ends of the hooks 5 to form a pair of spaced vertically disposed arms '7 connected by a horizontalbar 8 to produce an intermediate spring loop adapted to yieldably engage the rear of the photograph and form a support for the same.
The wire forming the opposite ends of the hooks is bent upwardly in parallel relation to the adjacent arms 7 and thence bent downwardly and rearwardly at 9 to form laterally disposed arms 10 terminating in eyes or loops 10 preferably disposed at an angle to said arms and adapted to bear against a table or other suitable support.
Attention is called to the fact that the horizontal bar 8 of the intermediate loop yieldably engages the rear wall of the photograph and thus firmly clamps the lower edge of the photograph in engagement with the hooks or supporting members 5 so as to effectually prevent accidental displacement of said photograph. It
will also be observed that the connecting bars 11 of the hooks 5 terminate short of the bent portions 9 of the wire, while the free ends of the wire forming the arms 10 are spaced apart to form a firm support for the holder.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that there is provided an extremely simple, inexpensive and efficient device admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in View.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
1. A holder comprising spaced supporting members adapted to receive one edge of the article to be supported and connected by an intermediate loop adapted to bear against the rear wall of the article, said supporting memhers being extended rearwardly and downwardly to form inclined arms terminating in eyes which are bent at an angle to said arms and disposed in a horizontal plane.
2. A holder formed of a single piece of wire an intermediate portion of which is bent to form a pair of spaced supporting members adapted to receive one edge of the article to be supported and thence extended upwardly be yond the supporting members and connected by a horizontal rod to produce a spring loop adapted to bear against the rear walls of the article to be supported, the free ends of the wire being extended rearwardly and downwardly to produce spaced arms terminating in supporting eyes arranged at an angle to said arms and disposed in a horizontal plane.
3. A holder formed of a single piece of wire bent to form a pair of spaced supporting hooks adapted to receive one edge of the article to be supported and thence extended upwardly beyond the hooks to produce a pair of parallel arms connected by a horizontal rod to form a spring loop adapted to yieldably engage the rear wall of the article to he supported, the ends of the wire after the hooks are formed being extended upwardly in parallel relation to the Vertical arms and thence bent rearwardly and downwardly to form spaced arms terminating in supporting eyes the free ends of which are bent at an angle to said arms and disposed in a horizontal plane.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM HERBERT STEVENS.
