Description

PATENTED AUG. 18, 1907.
L. Z. BRADBURY.
GABLE DOOR. APrLIoATIoN FILED 1211.5, 1901.
LAFAYETTE Z. BRADBURY, OF SUMMIT, SOUTH DAKOTA.
GABLE-DOOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application filed April 5, 1907. Serial No. 366,584.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, LAFAYETTE Z. BRADBURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Summit, in the county of Roberts and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Gable- Doors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a gable-door, and has for its object an improved hanger for such a door, together with novel means for operating the door.
In the accompanying drawing7 Figure l is a front elevation of the upper portion of a barn showing the gabledoor closed. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the door open.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the upper or gable-portion of a barn, and 6 is the door to the hay loft. The door is hinged at its inner side to links 7 which are pivotally mounted on the door-sill 8. The ends of the links are bent sidewise and placed under straps 9 secured to the door and the sill. The links, near the sill, are also bent laterally as indicated at I0 so that they will clear the sill when the door is swung open as shown in Fig. 3. The bend 10 rests on the sill when the door is open and thus also serves to sustain its weight when in this position, thereby relieving the straps 9 of all strain from the weight of the door. To the back 0f the door is fastened a chain 11 having at its free end a hook 12 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
A door mounted in the manner herein described can be closed by the same motive power by which the hay is loaded into the loft. This is done by attaching the door to the hay sling rope 13 which runs over a pulley I4 traveling on a track 15 which is mounted on a beam 1G extending outside the barn from the roof. At the outer end of the track is a depression 17 in which the pulley seats when it is used for hoisting hay into the loft. The connection between the door and the hoisting rope is made by the chain 1l which is passed through a ring 1S on said rope, after which the hook 12 is placed in one of the chain links. When the door' is open, its top edge will be below the sill so as not to interfere with the loading operation. The top of the door is recessed as indicated at 19 through which the beam 16 extends when the door is closed.
The door can be readily connected to and disconnected from the hoisting apparatus, and the invention affords cheap and convenient means for hanging and operating the door.
I claim:-
The combination with a door' casing, of links having a. lateral bend at one end and pivoted at said end to the sill of the door casing, a door hinged to the other end of the links, and hoisting devices connected to the door.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
LAFAYETTE Z. BRADBURY.
Witnesses z C. H. LIEN, CHAs. G. BRADBURY.
