JOHN R'. BLLIS, O'F BOWLING GREEN, OHIO.
Leers 'Patent No. 86,208, ma .Tammy 26, 1869.
IMPROVIEMENT IN J' OINTER FOR CIRCULAR SAWS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom fit may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN R. BULLIs, of Bowling Green, in the county of Wood, and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Circular-Saw J ointers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, andto the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to a simple device for jointing circular saws, and consists mainly of a frame, hold ing a tile, which latter is advanced, as the teeth are out away, by means of an adjustable sash-slide.
The details of construction, and manner of operation, will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings- Figure l represents a perspective view, and
Figure 2, a sectional elevation. In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may be enabled to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the frame-workl of the machine, consisting of the beams t a and uprights a' a', which are suitably braced and connected by cross -beams, as shown.
B B represent inclined ways up the front, upon which slides the sash B1, which is provided at its front Vend with a pivoted bar, b, having a socket, in which the upper end of the le is secured.
The sash is also provided with the screw-rod b and hand-nut b2.
B2 represents a cross-beam, securely attached to the ways B, which extends across the sash B, and furnishes a bearing-surface for the hand-nut bz'to press against. The sash-slide-is suitably cut away in the centre, in order to move freely without interfering with this beam.
O represents a screw-rod, provided with the pivoted brace o, which is arrangedto' press against the back of the file at any angle. This rod is screwed in crossbeams, suitably located, and is operated by means of a hand-nut, as shown.
D represents a cross-beam, in which the lower end of a file, E, is slipped. This is so arranged as to turn freely as the file changes position.
From 'this description the operation of my invention will be readily understood.
.When it is desired to use the machine, it should be placed in front of the moving saw, with the file bearing against the largest teeth. The operator, standing behind the machine, with his feet upon the bed-pieces, to keep it steady, advances the slide`.and brace, as the teeth are cutaway, until all are touched by the le and made uniform in height.
I do not claim broadly the manner of jointing a saw by advancingl a le by means of a screw, for such an arrangement is shown in the patent of W. B. Noyes,
-March 3, 1868 but W'hat I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement ofthe frame A with ways B, pivoted cross-beams b, D, and adjustable sash B, with iile E and brace c, when all the parts are constructed as described, and for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed and witnessed, this 9th day of October, 1868.
J OHN. R. BULLIS. Witnesses:
HENRY MERCER, ISAAC H. RIGKARD.
