Description

No. 854,621. PATENTED MAY 21 1907.
R. A. BAGGETT.
VEGETABLE CUTTER AHLIOATION FILED OUT. 9, 1905.
ROBERT A. BAGGETT, OF BELTON, TEXAS.
VEGETABLE-CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1907.
I Application filed October 9, 1905- Serial NO. 281,988-
To alZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT A. BAGGETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belton, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vegetable-Cutters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in vegetable cutters.
The object of the invention is to provide a cutter of this character having means whereby the blade may be operated to produce a clean cut and whereby the same may be rapidly and forcibly operated.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which will be simple, strong and durable in construction, efficient in operation and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a vegetable cutter constructed in accordance with the invention; and Fig. 2 is a verticalsectional view of the same, taken immediately in front of the cutting blade and through the slot in the guide frame and cutting block of the device.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the cutting block or base having formed on its under side adjacent to one edge a recess 2. In the top of the block adjacent to the inner wall 3 of the recess 2 is formed a knife slot 4, through which the knife or blade 5 is adapted to be reciprocated. One end of the knife or blade 5 is pivotally connected to the inner wall 3 of the recess 2 and to the upwardly projecting op osite end of said blade is pivotally connected an 0 erating handle 6, by means of which the blade will be rapidly and forcibly reci rocated through the slot 4. One wall of t e slot 4 coacts with the blade as a ledger plate to secure a clean cut of the blade through the vegetables placed on the block.
On the block or base 1 is secured a segmental guide frame 7, which is substantially quarter circular, and in which is a verticallydisposed guide slot 8, closed at its lower and upper ends, as at 9, 10, and through which slot the handle 6 and the free end of the blade move when the blade is operated by the handle. Said slot also limits the movement of the said blade and the latter is rovided at its free end with a recess 11 to ear on the wall 9, which closes the lower end of the slot. The said segmental guide has a horizontal leg or car 11 at the lower end of the guide slot, which bears on and may be secured b a screw or other suitable device on the base. Said segmental guide is further provided at its upper end with a supporting leg 12, at the lower end of which is a foot 13, secured by a screw or other suitable device on the base.
By pivotally connecting the lower end of the handle to the free end of the blade the latter may be operated with greater ease and much more conveniently than cutters in which a rigidly connected handle is provided. From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood Without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters- Patent, is
The herein-described vegetable cutter comprising the base having the transverse slot and recessed on its under side to clear the cuttings, the segmental guide frame dis osed transversely on and extending vertically above the base, said guide frame resting at one end directly on the base and having the lateral lug at said end to the base; having the depending supporting leg near and for its upper end, provided with the foot bearing on and secured to the base; said frame being further provided with the slot which alines vertically with that in the base and is closed at its ends, the blade pivoted at one end to the. frame, in the slot thereof, and having its outer end movable and guided in the slot of the frame, and the o crating handle for said blade, pivoted to t e outer end thereof and free to swing and lie in the slot of the segmental frame and to be supported by the closed upper end of said slot when not in use.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
