Description

Lw b .ahmed l tant' @anni (time GEORGE STUDER, OF RICHMOND,l INDIANA..
Letters Patent No. 85,344, (lated Deccmber29, 1868.
APPARATUS FOR PRESSING CIG-ARS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
consisting of a series of rods or wires, arranged in a tubular form, into which a newly-made cigar is placed, and the compression effected by means of a ring', which is slipped over one end of the series, the ends of the wires at the other end of the apparatus being permanently secured together. l
The open-construction of the apparatus allows the cigars to dryl rapidly.
An ornamental appearance is also given to the cigar, by reason of longitudinal corrugations produced by pressureof the rods or Wires.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my apparatus, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the' drawings.
The diameter of the space within. the apparatus, near the connected end, is less than that of the cigar.
The rods o r wires are soshaped that when they are freed at the open end of the apparatus, the latter assumes a funnel-shape, as shown in Figure l, by' means of which the cigar is easily inserted.A
When the cigar is placed within the apparatus, the ends of the wires are brought together, and ring B slipped on, as shown in Figure 2.
The apparatus is their placed in some locality favorable to the drying ofthe cigar, in order that the latter 'may be removed when sufficiently dried, so that the apparatus may again be ready for use. I
In order to prevent the pressure from renderingthe cigar too compact forafree circulation of smoke through it, I use, in the manufacture thereof, a wire, embedded longitudinally in said cigar, which, when withdrawn, leaves apa-ssage for the smoke.
Having thus fully described my said'inventi'on, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 'ihe combination of the rods or Wires, and ring or rings, substantially in the manner described, and for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE STUDER.
