Description

No. 853,410. y PATENTED MAY 14, 1907.
E. D. HUEBNER.
SURGICAL APPLIANGE.
APPLIUATION FILED un. 21, 1901.
UNi'rED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST D. HUEBNER, vOF MILVAUKEE, 'W1SUO'NSIN.
SURGICAL APPLIANOE.
`Torbll whom it may cortcern:
shown, described and claimed; its object being to provide simple, economical and ellicient appliances, each designed for use on a feeble or crooked male generative organ to `assist the same in the natural performance of its function in coition, provision being had for exerting pressure on the dorsal vein and other portions of said organ without discoin fort or injury to either male or female.
A pliances of the lzind aforesaid serve as .meclianical aids to medical treatment of the not unfrequently occurring inactivity or incapabilityof male generative organs to perform their reprmluctive office, w iieh state of said organs is abnormal or unnatural and constitutes malformation, disease or ailment that maybe remedied4 or counter-acted by proper treatmentand theV empli" ent of said appliances.
Devices that are Wholly' or partially end:
. less elastic bands have been devised ior the urposes of an appliance similar to the one 'ierein setforth, but such devices are necessarily of predetermined sizes and often too large for the patient or too constrictive for the ccmfort or welfare of saidpatie'nt. In vieur ofthese facts the appliance in accordance with my invention comprises a veincompressor adjustable to various diameters,
vat-ion of same partland a longitudinal support that is preferably extensible, this support being in connection with said com rcssor. Figure 1" o the accompauyin drawings represents a perspective view o a surgical appliance in accordance with myinvention partly broken away, there being some exaggeration of detail to better illustrate the construction of said device; Fig. 2. a front elebroken away, and Fi 3, aside elevation o a fragment of the app iance. Referring'by letter o the drawings, A indicates a split-band of steel or other suitable flexible material in ri `d connection with the rear end of a sleeve the ends of the band being lapped one upon the other and held in Specification of Letters Patent. I .Application lllad January 21.1907. Burial No. 858.188'

adjusted position by an elastic contractive slide C o mild strength or'otlier suitable means. To cushion the band A, the same is covered with soft elastic material D, as herein shown, said band, cushionedor otherwise, serving to compress the dorsal vein of, a male generative organ upon which it is laced to surround the same immediately adlljacent to the abdominal wall, and thus partially support the appliance as a whole.
The sleeve B is preferably of somewhat ilexible elastic material and has automatic friction-grip on the shank E of a fork in adjustable engagement therewith, said sleeve and fork together constituting an extensible sup ort, the greater portion of which is aralle to the corpus spongiosum of the a oresaid organ, inv ractice, andwhich will maintain a noi'inal y crooked 'organ in strai htened condition. The branches F of the ork are flexible, suitably bent and normally divergent from the shank E forward of same, and a contracting slide G is employed on said bran-ches, thisslide being prefer'a ly of elastic material.
The fork is adjusted to have the inwardly extending de ending forward bends b of its branches F f ank the ineatus of the aforesaid organ, these bends and the upwardly extending, laterally curved and rearwardly inclined ortions c of the fork-branches being covere( with a flexible jacket H ofA soft el astic material that extends rearward on the straight portions of said branches. vIn ractice, the 'acketed portions c of the orkbranches l-` are immediately in rear 'of the corona of the aforesaid organ and gri the cor ora cavernosa of same, the jacket at d, etween the preferably rounded ends of said branches, serving tocom lete a forward automatically expansible arc of the appli-- ance.
The normal spread of the fork-branches F, with reference to the comfort of the wearer of the appliance herein set forth, is readily determined by mani ulation of said branches and adjustment of t e jacket H, the slide G bei A adjusted on the aforesaid branches to regu ate nomial intensit of yieldin grip by the forward automatical y expansib e arch of said appliance.. These several adjustments being properly effected, the appliance, inpractice, does not exert pressure upon the urinarv canal .under any conditions, this being an advantageous feature of said appliance.
-',lhe apparent projections in the split-band los A at its junction with the sleeve B are so slight in practice as not to be noticeable or uncomfortable, they being considerably exaggerated in the showing along with other parts of the appliance. I claim: y l. A surgical appliance comprising an annular compressor adjustable to various diameters, a su ort extending from the comressor an( having normally. divergent ranches provided with forward inwardly extending depending bends and which are upwardl extended, 4laterallycurved and rearwarc ly inclined adjacent to these bends; a flexible elastic jacket adjustable on said branches of the sup ort to therewith form an extensible'forwar arch, and a contracting slide for the aforesaid branches of said sup- PON"- f 2. A surgical appliance comprising an annular compressor adjustable to various dialneters, a longitudine ly extensible su port in connection with the compressor, andl avin normally diver ent branches provided wit forward inward y extending depending bends and which are upwardly extended,latera lly curved and rearwardly inclined adjacent to these bends;
a flexible elastic jacket adjust able on said branches of the support to therewith form an extensible forward arch, and a eontractinguslide for the aforesaid branches of said support.
3. A surgical appliance comprising a lexible split-band, means for holding the ends of g the band adjustably la pcd one upon the other, a support. exten: ing from sind band and having normally divergent"` branches provided with forward inwardly extending depending bends and which are upwardly extended, laterally curved and rearwardly inclined adjacent to these bends; a flexi ble elastic jacket ad justable, on said branches of the support to therewith form an extensible forward arch, and a contracting slide yfor the aforesaid branches of said support.
. 4. A surgical appliance comprising a flexibllle split-band, means for holding the ends of t e and adjustablv lapped one upon thev other, a flexible elastic. sleeve extending from said band, a fork having its shank in longitudinally ad'ustable en agement with the sleeve, the for -braurhes icing normally divergent and provided with forward nwardlv extending depending bends, from which bends the are upwardly extended, laterally curved am?r rearwardl inclined; a flexible elastic jacket adjusts le on said fork-branches to therewith formrl extensible forward arch,l and a contracting slide for the aforesaid forkbranches.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee in the county of- Milwaukee and State o f Vlrisconsin in the presence of two witnesses.
