WINDOW-SHADE AND CURTAIN-POLE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed May 24, 1906. Serial No. 318,576.
To (l/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES H. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Freeport, in the county of Armstrong and State of ennsy'lvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade and Curtain-Pole Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple form of combined holder for windowshades and curtain-poles which is capable of being readily applied to the window-frame, which when applied is readily adjustable to admit of removal of the window-shade or ourtain-pole at will, and which is further advantageous in that it may be readily detached from the window frame entirely without necessitating removal of fastenings, such as is incident to the use of the ordinary devices of this class.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the invention applied to a window-frame. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the holder alone. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken intermediate of the ends of the holder.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
In the drawings the holder, as illustrated, is comprised of the two complemental sections 1 and 2, each of which is of like form substantially. The sections 1 and 2 are pref erably made of sheet metal suitably stamped out from the blank, and each section has its outer extremity bent outwardly, as shown at 3, to form extensions adapted to support a curtain-pole. The extensions 3 are twisted, as at 8 to bring the broader surfaces into horizontal positions, and said extensions have their outermost terminals curved downwardly and upwardly to form curved supporting members 4, which receive the ends of the curtainole when the latter is in position upon the ho der.
It will be understood that the parts of the holder may be of any ornamental appearance, according to the whim of the manufacturer and the price to be paid for the articles. The sections 1 and 2 as to slide with relation to one another. In other words, the inner extremities of the sections 1 and 2 are provided with forwardly and rearwardly bent lugs 5, a pair for each section, and these lugs projecting from the upper and lower edge portions of the sections are adapted to so embrace the same as to hold the sections together and at the same time admit of the slidable longitudinal movement hereinbefore suggested. The lugs 5 of one section engage over the body portion of the I other section, and the sections are thus united. If desired, the central portions of the sections 1 and 2 may be cut away to lighten the construction. The outer end portion of each section 1 and 2 is cut longitudinally to admit of bending outward the window-shadesupporting extensions or members 6. The members 6 are thus integrally formed with the sections from which they project, and one lug has a suitable slot 7, and the other is provided with an opening 8, adapted to receive the journals of the ordinary types of window-shades in the customary manner.
The manner of applying the invention to the window-frame is peculiar and advantageous. For the above purpose fastenings 7 are attached to the frame 8, and each of said fastenings is of L form, one arm of the fastening being threaded or otherwise formed, so as to readily enter the frame of the window, the other arm of each fastening being adapted to overlap an adjacent section of the holder. Two fastenings are provided adjacent to opposite ends of the holder and extend over the upper and lower edges thereof, permitting of free longitudinal movement of the holdersections 1 and 2 if it be desired at any time to remove the shade from the shade-supporting members 6. Furthermore, if it is necessary at any time to remove the holder entirely from the window-frame it will be obvious that the fastenings 7 may be readily turned, so that the engaging arms thereof are free fi'om engagement with the holder-sections 1 and 2, whereby the holder may be readily detached.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is v A combined window-shade and curtainpole hanger or fixture, comprising similar complemental sections placed one upon the are adjustably connected, so 1 other, each having a longitudinal slot extending nearly the entire length thereof and provided at its inner end with oppositely-extending lugs in the plane thereof and folded upon themselves to engage loosely with the longitudinal edges of the adjacent section to hold said sections together and give proper direction thereto in longitudinal adjustment thereof, each section having its outer end portion longitudinally cut and having the POT-1 tion bordering upon the out bent outward at angle to provide wmdow-shade-supa right porting extensions and eurtain-pole-supporting members, said parts being bent at different points in the length of the seetio n, the
