HERMAN VOIGT. Sit, OF \VINONA, MINNESOTA.
BABY-WALKER.
Application filed Anril 9,
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN Vorer, Sn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of \Ninona, in the county of \Ninona and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Baby-W'alker, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in baby-walkers, the object being to provide a device of this character that may be used in a house or out of doors, it being sufficiently strong in construction as not to be damaged by out-door exposure and by means of which a child learning to walk will have healthful exercise and amusement, a further object being to so construct the device that it may be compactly folded when not required for use.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the general description.
I will describe a baby-walker embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a babywalker embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section 4 is a sectional detail showing means for locking the walking-board and also means for locking the seat, and Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view illustrating the device for securing the walking-board together.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the base or foot board supported by a frame consisting of side pieces 2 and cross-pieces 3, the said base or foot board being arranged at the top of the frame, so that there is not only a circulation of air underreath the same, but the footboard will be raised sufficiently above the ground or flooring to prevent a childs feet from getting too close to the ground or flooring, thus preventing the chill ing of the feet. Preferably the upper side of the footboard 1 is provided with a cushion consisting of a textile material 4.
Having swinging connection with the footboard are end uprights or frames 5, attached to the lower portions of which are the crosspieces 6 and the horizontally-disposed pieces 7. These end pieces, with the parts connected thereto, as here shown, are attached to the footboard by means of hinges 8, so that Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
1906. Serial No. 310,683-
when the device is not in use the said end 1 pieces or frames may be folded downward.
side rails 9. These side rails 9 at. the ends have pins 1.0 for engaging in socket members 11, attached to the end pieces or frames.
Slidable along the side rails 9 is the walking-board, consisting of two sections 12 13, the adjacent edges of whichhave semicircular openings which when said edges are brought together form a circular opening for engaging around the childs waist, this circular opening being indicated at 14. The walking board, as clearly indicated, has around its edge an upwardly-extended flange 15, and in the section 13 is a tray 16 for receiving toys or the like. The two sections 12 13 are locked together by means of springclips 17, attached to the section 13 and having openings 18 for receiving spring hookshaped keepers 19, secured to the section 12. It is obvious, however, that the arrangement of these parts may be reversed without departing from the spirit of my invention. The walking-board sections have downward extensions 20 at the sides provided with outwardly-extended flanges 21 for engaging in channels 22, formed in the inner sides of the side rails 9 and extending nearly the entire length of said side rails. Also having sliding connection with the side rails is a seat 23, the said seat having at its opposite sides flanges 24 for engaging in channels 25, formed longitudinally in the inner sides of said side rails. As a means for holding the seat rigidly in its forward position I employ a spring latch 26, designed for engaging with the rear edge of the seat, and this spring-latch has a linger-piece 27 extended outward through an opening in one of the side rails to which the catch is connected. At the front of the seat attached to arms 29, which have swinging connection with said seat. By this swinging connection a childs legs may be exercised by swinging the foot rod or bar. The walkingboard may also be held in a stationary position over the seat by means of bolts 30, slidable in loops 31, secured to the outer sides of the side bars 9 and adapted to engage in re cesses 32, formed in the under side of one of the walking-board sections.
It will be seen that a baby-walker embodying my invention will be strong and durable, yet portable, and obviously it will be made l of any desired length, and, as before stated,
Detachably connected to the end pieces 5 are.
23 is a footrod 28, the said foot-rod being the device may be compactly folded for storage or transportation. Preferably theseat 23 will be provided with a back board or rest 33.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A baby-walker comprising a base, a frame for supporting the base, end uprights hinged to the base, side rails detachably connected with the end uprights, a walkingboard slidable longitudinally between the side rails, said Walking-board being divided transversely into sections, means for detachably securing the sections together, one of said sections being provided with a tray for receiving toys, a seat slidable below the walking-board, a swinging foot-rest depending from the seat, catches on the side rails for fixing the walking-board with respect to said side rails, and latches for fixing the seat with respect to the side rails.
2. A baby-walker comprising a base, a frame for supporting the base, end uprights hinged to the base, side rails detachably connected with the end uprights, a walkingboard slidable between the side rails, a seat slidable below the walking-board, and a swinging foot-rest depending from said seat.
3. A baby-walker comprising a base, a frame for supporting the base, end uprights hinged to the base, side rails detachably connected with the end uprights, a walkingboard mounted to slide between the side rails, a seat mounted to slide between the side rails below the walking-board, and latches for fixing the seat with respect to the side rails.
4. A baby-walker comprising a footboard, end frames connected to the footboard, side rails having connection with the end frames, a walking-board slidable on the side rails, a seat having slidable connection with the said rails, and a spring-yielding device for holding said seat in its forward position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
