T all whom t mag/concern.:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. MOREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Floyd, in the county of Floyd and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rein-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rein or line holders; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
The object of the invention is to provide an effective device of this class which may be readily applied in operative position over a dashboard or some other convenient portion of a vehicle-body and always in condition for immediate use and having-an. operation to firmly retain the extremities of reins or lines therein. l'
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective y view of a rein or line holder embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section ofthe same.
Like characters refer to like parts throughout the views.
Thenumeral 1 designates a su porting or body member having a downwar ly-directed hooked terminal 2. Secured to the lower extremity of the body member 1 is a plate 3, having knuckles 4 to receive ay companion knuckle 5,therebetween and carried by an upstanding clamping member 6, formed with an outwardly-turned upper -terminal 7, which stands above the upper bend between the body member 1 and hooked terminal 2.
The clam ing member 6 is free to move inwardly an outwardly with respect to the body member 1 in view of thehinged connection set forth, but is normally held at a predetermined distance from the said body member by a pin or bolt 8, secured to the' center of said body memberand projected through an opening 9 inthe center of the clamping member, said opening being large enough to permit the clamping member to have unrestricted movement inwardly and outwardly with res ect to the body. member. On the outer en of the pin or bolt 8 a nut or head 10 is disposed, and between the latter and the clam Ing member and surrounding the pin or bo t is a cushion-spring 1 1.
The im roved rein-holder may be applied in suitablle position ona dashboard or to a part of the latter, or in some instances it may be secured over the side of the vehicle-body, and when in use thel reins are drawn ldown between the clamping member 6 and the body member 1, forcing the said clamping member'outward against the resistance of the spring 11, which causes the clamping member to iirmly grip the reinsand prevent accidental disengagement thereof from the holder.
rIlhe reins may be readily passed downwardly into the space between the members 1 and 6 and also easily lifted from said space.
It will be'understood that suitable materials may be used in the construction of the improved holder and -that the proportions ang dimensions thereof may also be varied at w1 .v
What I claim is- A rein-holder comprising a body member with a hooked terminal, a clamping member hinged to the Vouter side of the body member and having an openingtherein, a pin secured to the body member and projected through the opening in the clamping member and having a head on its outer terminal, and a spring inter osed between the head of the in and the c amping member and surroun ing the In testimony whereof I aIIiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
