ALBERT LEVY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
STOCKlNG-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1906- Application filed September 20, 1906. Serial No. 335,411.
To all w/mm it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT LEVY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking- Supporters, of which the following is a speci' fication.
My invention relates to garment-supporters, and more particularly to garment-engaging devices constituting a part thereof.
One of the primary objects of the invention is to provide an engaging device in which all metallic parts are dispensed with.
A further object is to provide an engaging device which is particularly simple in construction and highly efficient and satisfactory in use.
To this end the invention includes the parts and the combination and arrangement of component parts, to be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one exemplification of my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the engaging device applied to a garment. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the engaging device detached from the suspending member, and Fig. 3 is a detail view illustrating the method of assembling parts of the device.
The improved engaging device comprises generally a single length of tape or braid doubled over a bar of a suspendingdoop, whereby two legs are formed, one of which is provided with a buttonhole, and the other of which has its end doubled over to provide a tab to which a button is freely secured, and thereafter the tab is fastened down upon the main part of the second leg, thus forming a relative stiff end to the latter.
In the illustrated exemplification of the invention the engaging device is designated a and comprises a single fiat length of braid or tape doubled upon itself about the bottom bar of a compound loop-plate b, so as to provide the two legs 0 d. Suitable means are provided to prevent the accidental displace ment of the tape from the lower bar of plate b, and in the illustrated embodiment of the invention this office is performed by a row of stitching which passes through the two legs 0 d immediately below this bar.
The end of the leg 0 is doubled over to provide a tab 0, to which a button e is secured by a flexible connection f. As illustrated herein, this connection or link is formed by a suitable cord g, the bail portion of which engages an eye in the button, and the ends of which are secured to the tab cf, passing through the face of the same and being secured to the rear side thereof, which lies against the face of the leg 0. After the ends of the cord are secured the tab is preferably sewed down upon the face of the leg 0. The leg (Z is provided with a suitable buttonhole 9 designed to coact with button 6.
The loop I) may be of any desired construction and depends from a suspender h, which likewise may be of any desired construction.
In using the device as a hosesupporter the doubled end of the leg 0, which is comparatively stiff, is placed upon the inside of the hose and the button then engaged with the buttonhole with the fabric of the hose interposed. The fabric is thus gathered about the button and is prevented from disengagement therefrom by the wall of the buttonhole. As will be noted, the flexible connection between the button 6 and the leg 0 provides for the ready passage of the button through the buttonhole with the fabric interposed.
I claim 1. In a supporter, the combination with a suspending member of an engaging device comprising a strip of fabric doubled upon itself to provide two legs, a button, a flexible connection between the button and one of said legs, and a buttonhole in the other leg coacting with the button, substantially as described.
2. In a supporter, the combination with a suspender including a loopplate, of an engaging device comprising a single length of tape doubled over a bar of the loop-plate to provide two legs which depend from the plate, a tab on one of the legs, a button, a link connection between the button and tab provided by a cord, and a buttonhole in the other leg of the engaging device designed to coact with the button, substantially as described.
3. In a garment-supporter, the combination with a suspender, of an engaging device comprising a single length of tape doubled upon itself to provide two legs, one of said legs having its end doubled back to provide a tab, a button, a cord having its bail portion engaged with the button and its ends passed name to this specification in the presence of through the front face of the tab and secured tWo subscribing Witnesses.
upon the rear side thereof, said tab being thereafter secured to the face of said leg and the other of said legs having a buttonhole in ALBERT LEVY 5 the same designed to coact with said button, Witnesses: v
substantially as described. BENJAMIN ALEXANDER,
In testimony whereof I have signed my EARL SENAT.
