Description

PATENTED NOV. 18, 1906.
A. LEISEGANG. PROCESS OF ORNAMENTING OIL CLOTH.
APPLICATION FILED 00T.3l, 1904.
UNITED sTA Es PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 13, 1906.
Application filed October 31,1904. Serial No. 230,744.
To all whom/it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLF LEISEGANG, a
subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Elberfeld-Steinbeck, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Process of Ornamenting Oil-Cloth,
of which the following is a speclfication.
The process is known of roducing on glass dull spots by the action 0 a stream of sand or chemical substances.
In applying this process on oil-cloth I Wish to attam a' great durableness of the ornaments thereon, which heretofore were easily spoiled by breaking, washing off, or thelike. The cloth has been ornamented hitherto by stam ing, pressing, or printing. These methods ave on the one hand the drawback that the material thus treated becomes less durable and on the other that the ornaments are never lasting, especially'those roduced by printing are soon scrubbed off. he present process removes these drawbacks. It cons1sts in covering those surfaces of the said oil-cloth which are to retain their luster by suitable Ineansfor instance, wax, paraflin patterns or stencils of sheet metal, paper, or woodand expose the uncovered parts to the action of a stream of sand.
The accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to like parts throughout the dif- 'view of such a plant.
ferent ,=views, show a lant and how the stream of sand is applie to the covered surface of oil cloth.
In the drawings, Figure 1 illustrates a side Fig. 2 illustrates a plan view of such a plant. Fi 3 shows a piece of finished ornamented oil-c 0th.
1 is the blowing-machine. 2 illustrates the wind-chest; 3, the blast of sand; 4, the sandblower; 5, the frame for the oil-cloth and for the attern; 6, the lift for the sand-blower 4 7, t e oil-cloth to be ornamented; 8, iderollers 9, the finished ornamented oil-c 0th.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-
The process to ornament oil-cloth, which consists in covering some parts of the surface of the oil-cloth and exposin the uncovered parts of the surface of said oi -cloth to a blast of sand, the eflect of which is to deprive the uncovered places of their luster substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADOLF LEISEGANG.
