PATENTED OCT. 23, 1906.
PRYCE WESLEY BAILEY, SENECA FALLS, NEW YORK.
- DEVICE FOR CATCHING FLIE S AND OTHER INSECTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 23, 1906.
Application filed May 21, 1906. Serial No. 317,882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PRYOE WESLEYBAILEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seneca Falls, in the county of Seneca and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Catching Flies and other Insects, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for catching flies and other insects; 'and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class whlch may be used in the manner of an ordinary fan to which flies and other insects will adhere.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters, said drawing being a front or side view of my improved fly or insect catching device.
In the practice of my invention I provide a frame a, which is preferably rectangular in form and composed of wire and provided at one end with a handle I). I also provide a sheet 0 of flexible material, strong paper, light fabric, or similar material being preferred, and said sheet is in practice covered on both sides with adhesive material, such as isusually employed in connection with ordinary fly-paper, and the sheet 0 is provided in the form of construction shown with eyelets cl around the edgesthereof, and the frame a is provided with loosely-mounted hooks e, adapted to engage the eyelets cl and which securely hold the sheet a in the frame a.
In practice a party desiring to use this device for catching flies or other insects grasps the handle I) and goes after the flies or insects and uses the device in the manner of apaddle or fan, and all flies or insects which come in contact with the sheet a will adhere thereto.
It will be understood, of course, that a number of sheets 0 are employed and kepton hand, and these sheets may be prepared so that by simply moistening them the adhesive material thereon will be put in condition for use, or the adhesive material may be applied to the sheets a when the latter are attached to the frame a.
My invention is not limited to the particular means herein shown and described for connecting the sheet 0 with the frame a, and any suitable means may be employed for this purpose, the idea being that a new sheet may be substituted for an old one whenever desired.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Adevice of the class described, comprising a frame having a handle, a sheet of suitable material having adhesive material on the sides thereof, and means whereby said sheet may be detachably connected with said frame, comprising eyelets secured in said sheet adjacent to the edges thereof and hooks loosely mounted on the frame and adapted to engage said eyelets.
2. In a device of the class described, a frame provided with loosely-mounted hooks, and with a handle.
3. In a device of the class described, a
sheet the sides of which are provided with adhesive material, the edges of said sheet being also provided with eyelets. 4. An insect-catching device made in the form of a fan and comprising a frame provided with a handle and a sheet provided with adhesive material and means for securing said sheet in said frame, comprising hooks loosely mounted on said frame and adapted to engage said sheet.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presonce of the subscribing witnesses, this'16th.
day of May, 1906.
I PRYCE WESLEY BAILEY.
Witnesses:
FLORENCE L. VAN RIPER, HERBERT J. FEEHAN.
