LOUIS J. PARSONS, on NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent No. 83,201, dated October 20, 1868.
INIPROVEIMEN'I IN THE MODE OI BINDING THE EDGES OI" HEW-HOLDERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of this name.
To all whom it may concern I had to the accompanying drawings, and. to the Jetters' of reference marked thereon;
My invention consists in a metallic flame with flanges, for binding the edges of rein-holes, toprevent the holes flom tearing out at the corners, and a clasp on the top of the face of the flame, by which to secure the flap covering the flont of rein-hole.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a portion of a carriage-boot having my invention applied, and shows the manner of attaching the flap.
Figure 2 is a view of flame ready to be applied.
Figure 3 is a back- View of a portion of a carriageboot, with frame applied to the rein-hole.
Fig. 1. A is a portion of a carriage-boot; B is the frame; 0. is the flap for covering the front of reinhole D clasp for securing the flap to the frame.
Fig. 2. B is the frame; 1), clasp for securing flap;
E E flanges for binding and securing flame to boot. Fig. 3. A portion of carriage-boot; O flap; E E
' E 19 flanges bent over, binding the edges of reinhole, and securing the flameto the boot.
To apply the flame, the flanges are passed through the hole and turned over the edges; the top edge of the flap placed in the clasp, which is firmly compressed upbn it.
The above invention being made and applied as shown, its advantages maybe plainly seen. It is simple in construction, easily and quickly applied, and will efiectually prevent the boot flom being torn at the corners of the rein-hole, a fault so common and troublesome in the old manner of bindin It will also be cheaper and more ornamental than .t e old method.
Claim.
What I claim as my invention, and desire-to seciu'e. by Letters Patent, is-- The metallicframe B for binding the edges of reinholes in carriage-boots and horse-blankets, and securing the flap which covers the front of rein-hole in boots, madeand applied substantially in the manner shown and described.
