Description
No. 830,319. PATENTED SEPT. 4, 1906. J. J. HARPER. ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT FOR SHADES AND CURTAINS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 11.1906.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADJUSTABLE Specification of Letters Patent.
SUPPORT FOR SHADES AND CURTAINS- Patented Sept. 4, 1906.
Application filed June 11, 1906. Serial No. 321.144.
To all whmn it Wmy concern:
Be it known that I, JEREMIAH J. HARPER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Indian Orchard, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Supports for Shades and Curtains, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in fixtures for supporting window-shade rollers and also the poles on which lace curtains may be hung.
The object of the invention is to produce a cheap and simple fixture for supporting a shade-roller and a curtain-pole which once mounted in place on the upper part of the window-casing is adapted to receive supporting engagement therewith of the journalstuds of shade-rollers having quite a range of variability in their lengths, as well as to sustain the pole for a lace or other curtainf it never being necessary after the supportingfixtures are once mounted to remove or replace any screws or other fastenings and deface the woodwork of the window-casing.
The invention consists in the particular formations or constructions of parts and the combinations or arrangements of the parts, all substantially as hereinafter fully described, and set forth in the claim.
The improved devices are shown in the accomp anying drawings, in WlliOl1- Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the substantially alike pair of supp orting-fixtures for the shade-roller and a lace-curtain pole. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the fixtures as the same would be seen at the left of the casing of the side thereof opposite from the location of the parts shown in Fig. 1., Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fixtures shown in Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference indicate corres onding parts in all of the views.
In t he drawings, A represents a bar to be positioned in front of a window-casing, the same being of square or prismatic form and having a right-angularly-turned end portion a, provided with a screw-hole b therethrough and adapted to be positioned against and by a screw a; to be secured to the edge of the window-casing w.
B represents a stud which by its shank is fixed into the front of the casing at a point opposite from the place of attachment of the portion a of the aforesaid bar, and this stud has a square eye d therein to receive and support the end portion of the bar A.
0 represents the bracket for each of the fixtures having a socket f or f made in the form of a round hole for the one side fixture and in the form of an upwardly-open slot for the opposite side fixture and for receiving the shade-roller journal-studs g. Each of the brackets has a hole 0'. of square form, whereby it is fitted to slide along on, and be non-rota table relatively to, said bar, and each bracket is provided with a thumb-screw to be engaged against the bar for holding the bracket firmly in its adjusted position, and capable of being loosened to allow the bracket to be adjusted along the bar crosswise of the windowcasing.
D represents a curtain-pole bracket having depending portions m and n one in front of the other, the one, m, having a hole m whereby it is fitted about and supported on said bar A adjacent the junction of the main portion of the bar with the angularly-turned portion a thereof, while the portion n is made with a screw-hole which is alined with the screw-hole b of the portion a, the arrangement being such that the single screw as not only serves as the fastening at the edge of the casing for the bar A of the fixture, but also constitutes the fastening for the curtain-pole bracket.
I claim An adjustable shade-roll support consisting of a prismatic bar to be positioned in front of a window-casing having a rightangularly-turned end portion provided with a screw-hole therethrough, and adapted to be positioned against, and to be screwed to, the edge of the casing, a stud to be fixed into the front of the casing at a point oppositely from the place of attachment of said angularlyturned end portion and having an eye therein to receive and support the end portion of the said bar, and a bracket having a socket for a shade-roll journal-stud, having an opening whereby it is fitted to slide along and be nonrotatable relatively to said bar, and having a thumb-screw for confining it in its adjusted position on said bar, and a curtain-pole bracket having depending portions one 'in' front of the other, and one having a hole whereby it is fitted about and supported on 1 turned portion of the bar.
