Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 4, 1906.
Appliostion filed January 14,1906. Serial No. 241,150.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. Pins, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Warwick, in the county of Orange and State of New York.
I lowing is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvement-sin milk-cans, and has for its object to provide a handle so constructed that all liability of the handle pulling ofi is prevented.
Another object of my invention is to provide a milk-can surrounded by a band carrying the handles, so that all danger of the handle pulling off accidentally after being put in place is prevented, and at the same time forming a protection to the can so that the cans will not become-dented, as now is the case when they are shipped. Another obgect of my invention 1s to provide a handle in connection with the can,
formed of two members hinged together so that it can be easily and quickly removed when desired.
With these objects in View the invention consists of the novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the cleims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l is e pers ective view of the can. Fig. 2 is a. section 0 the lug cerried by the hoop, showingthe handle attcched, partly broken away, so as to show the locking-bolt. Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on. the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the handle detached. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the bend, hoop, and lug;
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the can of the ordinary construction, to the upper end of which is secured a band 2, having a hoop 2 secured to the upper edge of thebsnd, so as torelieve the solder over the bend and to form a. protection for the cons so as to prevent them from being dented by bumping up against one another when being shipped, and by shrinking this hoop on the band it makes it almost impossible for the band to be pulled off. To the hoop 2 at oposite sides are secured lugs 3, having openings 4 formed therein and an upwprdly-ex tending flap 3 adapted to be secured to the inclined top of the can. A transverse groove I have invented s. new and useful" Handle ior Milk-Cans, 85s., of which the fol- From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have formed a very simple and cheap handle and one in which the handle can be turned up on the inclined top so that it will not be in the way when being shipped.
riavinp thus fully described my invention, when]. 0 sim as new, and desire ti) secure by Letters Patent, is Y 1. Thecombination with a can, of a band secured to said can, a hoop secured on said hand provided with perforated lugs, a handle formed in two parts hinged together, in-
wardly-projecting lugsformed on said handie and means for holding the lugs of the handlein the perforated ears of the hoop for the purpose described.
2. The combination with s can, of a hoop provided with erforated lugs secured to said can, a handle 'ornacd in two parts hinged toether, lugeformed on said handle, openings ormed in the parts of the handle, and a bolt adapted to pass through the openings in the handle andloelr the l s in the erforated cars of the hoop, for the purpose described. The combination with a can of a. band secured to the upper edge of said can, a hoop provided with a'perture'd lugs having an upwardly-extending flap secured on said band and can and a separable handle secured in said lugs, for the purpose described.
