Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARRIE M. GREEN- WALD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Catamenial Sack, of which the following is a full,"clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a very simple construction of a catamenial sack and one thatis economic, pliable, and well adapted for the purpose.

Another object of the-invention is to so construct the body that the pad may be uickly, smoothly, and conveniently placed t erein and as readily removed from the body and to so construct the pads that the can be lengthened and shortened, as desire and, further, to provide flat and durable terminals for the body for attachment to a belt or other form of supporter.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the device, showingthe pad lengthened out; and Fig. 3 is a similar view through a portion of the body, showing the pad folded or shortened.

The body A is made of very thin and soft rubber, preferabl what is known as velvet rubber an may be of any desired length. I The ends A of the body taper toward their extremities at each side edge, and the said end sections A are double, being formed of two pieces 10 and 11, connected b lines of stitching 12 at their margins. A ta 13 is secured to the central portion of each end section A at its outer transverse edge; and said tabs extend inward over the inner faces of the end sections. The tabs 13 are in the form of loops, and each tab adjustably carries a safety-pin 14. of suitable size.

The pad B is in de in three sections-acentral or body section 17 and end sections 18, attached to the body-section at the central portion of their inner edges only, the attachment being made by stitching 19, whereby the end sections are hinged to the bod section. The-body-section 17 of the pad'h fits snugly in the body A. of the device, lying beneath the straps 16, and its side edges fit into the pockets formed by the wings '15. The

end sections 18 have a shape corresponding to that of the end sections A of the device upon which they lie when in use, being held n place by the safety-pins 14, as is shown in Figs. 1 and 2. When it is desiredto shorten up the device for any cause, the end sections 18 of the ad B are disconnected from the pins 14 and are neatly. folded under the bodysection, as is illustrated in Fig. 3, at which time the formation of the body A of the device and its straps 16 will effectually hold the pad in place.

The ad is made of a soft covering material and a lling of a soft absorbent material, and

the pad is tufted, so as to prevent the filling from balling up.

Attaching-loops C are located at the outer end of each end section A of the body A by means of the end transverse line of stitching 12. These attaching-loops C are adapted to be secured to a belt or the e uivalent thereof, and each loop is constructe of a single piece of fiat tape, the ends whereof are secured to the end sections A of the body A, as above referred to, and about centrally between the ends of each loop C the tape is bent upon en section 20, having inclined sides 21, said reinforcing-sections being attached to the side members of the loops by lines of stitching 22, and thesaid members of the loops at a certain distance below their reinforcements are connected at their inner side edges by stitches 23, forming thereby buttonholes 24. Thus these attaching-loops C may be buttoned to a belt or may be secured by pins passed through the reinforced sections.

The pads can be readily removed and others substituted, and the device is light and strong besides being perfectly sanitary.

A catamenial sack, consisting of a body of a liquid-proof pliable material having its sideedges bent over in direction of each other, forming longitudinal wings, and straps connecting the said wings, end sections of a similar yet double material attachedto the sections serving as a means for holding the ends of the wings to an engagement with the body where it meets the end sections, inwardly-extending loops secured to the outer end portions of the end sections of the body at their-upper faces, safety-pins adjustablein the said loops, and attaching-loops consisting'each of a single piece of flat braid having the ends thereof secured to the end sections of the body, the said braids being bent upon themselves at their central portions, forming a transverse reinforcing-section stitched to the body members, the reinforcing-sections having inclined sides, and buttonholes formed in the said attachingloops below the reinforcing-sections.

A catamenial sack, consisting of a body of a li uid-proof pliable material Having its side e ges bent over'in direction of each other, forming longitudinal wings, and straps connecting the said wings, end sections of a similar yet doubled material attached to the end portions of the body-section, the end sections serving as a means for holding the ends of the wings to an engagement with the body Where it meets the end sections, in- Wardly-extending loops secured to the outer end portions of the end sections of the body at their upper faces, safety-pins adjustable in the said loops, and attachin -loops consisting'each of a single piece of Eat tapehaving the ends thereof secured to the end sections of the body, the said tapes being bent upon themselves at their central portions, forming a transverse reinforcing-section stitched to the body members, thereinforcing-sections having inclined sides, formed in the said attaching-loops below the reinforcing-sections, a pad located Within the said body, extending the length and width thereof, end sections hinged to the said pad, adapted to fold beneath the same or to be folded at the end sections of the body, the end sections of the pad being adapted at such time to be secured by the said safetypins, and the hinged connection between the end sections and the body-section of the pad being about centrally between their opposing edges, for the purposes specified.
