ings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon,'which form a part of this specification. 4 k
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in compartment-cabinets, and is especially adapted to trunks, tool-chests, valises, j ewel-cases, and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a compartment-cabinet that hasa maximum amount of strength, which is easily locked, and when opened is easily accessible to all its compartments.
In a detail description of the invention reference is made to the accompanying drawings, of which- V Figure '1 is a perspective view of my invention when opened. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my invention when closed.
In a detail description of the invention similar reference characters indicate'correspending parts.
1 designates the back of my improved cabinet, which forms, together with the sides 2, 3, and 4, the lower compartment. Mounted above the lower compartment are two smaller compartments 6 and 8, which are v hinged to the back 1 by him cs 10 and 12.
These compartments may be t rown into the position shown in Fig. 1 to gain access to the ower compartment. When these compartments 6 and, 8 are thrown in, or, in other words, closed, the corners 13 and 14 rest upon the bracket 15 on the back 1, thereby forming a rigid support for said compartments Mounted above the swinging compartments 6 and 8 are two similar compartments 5 and 7,, which are swung on hinges 9 and 11 to the back 1. These compartments 5v and 7"m'ay be swung clear of the compartments 6 and 8 to ain access thereto, as shown in Fig. l. W en the u per compartments 5 and 7 are closed or t rown in, the corners 16 and 17 rest upon the bracket 18 on the back 1, thereby'forming a rigid support for said upper compartments. I
It will be number of swinging compartments; but I have found four to be the most convenient.
Mounted above the upper swinging comis a lid 19. This lid 19 may be provided with a mirror 21 when my invention is made in the form of. a valise. This lid 19 is adapted to fit over the upper compartments 5' and 7 when such compartments are closed or thrown in, and said lid is provided with a 23, on the lower front 3. The said hasp 20 is hinged to the lid 19 and acts as a stanchion to zontal position. When the swinging compartments 5, 6, 7, and 8 are thrown in and the lid 19 is closed upon the upper compartments, the hasp 2O fits in the recesses 22 adand thereby forms a smooth surface on the front of the cabinet.
Having described my invention, I claim' In a cabinet, a lower compartment having a back extending upwardly therefrom, a S6". ries of smaller compartments above said lower compartment and hinged to the back at their corners and at the vertical edges of the back to move inwardly and outwardly above the lower compartment, brackets mounted on the back in central positions to support the free corners of the smaller compartments when such compartments are swung inwardly above the lower comparthaving a recess adjacent to a-corner which recesses are in alinement when said smaller compartments are swung inwardly, a lid hinged to the upper edge of the back in a position to close the upper smaller compartments when the compartments are swung inwardly, and a hasp hlnged to said lid in a osition to lie within the recesses in the smailer compartments when said compartments are swung inwardly, and alock engaging said has all substantially as shown and descri ed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.

understood that may use any partments 5'and 7 and hmged to the back 1 hasp 20, which is secured, by means of a locksaid lid when it is thrown back into a horijacent to the corners of the compartments,
