UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ratenteci April 3, 190B.
Application led August 1B, N04. Renewed February 27, lililt Serial No. 303,209.
To ali whom t may concer-n:
Beit known that I, JoHN A. S'rneNsKr, e citizen of the United States, residing at Puk wana, in the county of Brolo and Stute ol South Dekota, have invented e new and useful Cement Post, of which the following is e specification..
This invention rcletes to fence-posts, and more articulerly to that class known es articialstone posts.
The object of the invention is to provide e simple, inexpensive, and durable post of this character having e central,I reinforcin -core whereby Vthe post is materially strengt ened and rendered more serviceable.
A further object of the invention is to provide the post with means for supporting the longitudinal Wirf in a lino of fencing, seid means eonsistin 'f ol e plurality of supportingclips each proviiled with an intermediate coil dinel core 6, seid core being preferably in the form of e hollow metallic tnhe which extends from one end of the body portion to the other, thereby strengthening the poet end preventin any tendency of the cement to crack or disintegrate. i
Secured to the front of the post et regular intervals ere e plurality of sup orting-clips adopted te support the longitn( nel wires 7 Vin a line of fencin The supporting-clips ere cach preferably ormedof e single p1 ece of wire, the intermediete portion of which is coiled to form a pair ot spring-jews S, adapted to receive the lino-wire 7, While the opposite ends thereof streddle the central core 6 end are bent laterali in opposite directions to forni terminal enc ors 9. By having the intermediate portion of the supporting-clips coiied in the menneitdescribed e clamping faction is exerted between the spring-jews 8,
forming a pair of Spring-jews adapted toreeeive the longitudinal wires.
A still further object in to provide ineens for securing the longitudinal Wires I'ietween the spring-jews of the Supporting-clips, so ne 'causing the latter to firmly grip the lon itudinel Wires and prevent accidentel disp eeernent of the seme, while the ends of the clip irmiy engage the central fiore on earch side thereof and tend to retain seid cip in proper to prevent accidental displncerncnt oi the same.
The invention consiste in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in `the accompanying drewinge, and pointed position The bottom portion of the coil 10 of eeoh supporting-clip is preferably embedded in the cement or other plastic maiteriel, en shown, so as to increase the clamping action of the sprinfr-j awe S. E
Ae en ruiflitione means for preventing latont in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions, and minor details of construction may, hc resorted to without departing. from therprineiple or sacrificing nnyof the edven; twas of this invention.
n the accompanying drawings, forming a. part of this lepcci'lif'ntion, liigrnrc l in e por- 'erel displacement oi the longitudinal wires 7 I provide e Series of retaining-rings 11, the overlapping ends of which ere slightly spaced eport, es indiceted et 12, to permit seid ring "to readily engage the spring-jaws, es will be rcedil y understood.
l'1 rom the 'foregoing description it will be neon that the post possesses the advantages spcctivc `.ficw of nn nrtiiicinhstonc pont constructed in accordance with' m f invention. Having thon described the invention, what is clan' ined is l. A l'enceaost comprising e body portion rospornling ports in nil the? figures of the drewi nge. A
The device forming the enhjoct-metter of the present inventioncrimini-s oi e body portion 5, formed of concrete, ferment, or other Suitable plnetic materiel molded or otherwise formed into the `dnipo shown, Embedded in having :1 rein orcingmorc, e plurality of snpporti nga-,lips engnging seid coro und provided with spaced spring-jews ndnptcd to receive the longitudinal wires in e line oi fencing, und removable reteinin r-ringe engaging the jews of the supporting-o ips.
2. A. Fenceost comprising e body portion the coment Hr ohur onderin! of WhirlJ the post 1s formed is a centrally-rlispoem| longitni lowing er rein 'orcinvioore zz plurality of nfiresupporting clxpeI enc 1 lowing en intel'anmhnte ICO portion thereof, coiled to form a pair of s ringjaws and its opposite ends engaging t e eore, and retaining members engaging the spring-punk` oi the oli ps.
3. A fence-post comprising a body portion having a reinforriiig-corej a plurality of wire- Qupporting clips each having an intermediate portion thereof coiled to forni a pair of spring-jaws and vits opposite ends bearing against Said core, and a split ring engaging said Spring-jaws.
4. An artificial-Stone fence-post coin )rising a body portion provided with a rein oreing-core, and a plurality of wire-supporting clips each having an intennediate portion thereof coiled to form a pair of spring clamping-jaws extending beyond the general )lane of Ihe post and its opposite ends bent laterally and engaging said core, a portion of the ii termediate coil oi' each clip being embedded in the body ofthe post.
5. A fence-post havinga body portion formed of plastic material, a reinforcing-core extending longitudinally of the bod y portion, a plurality of wire-supporti ng clips eaeh provided with` horizontally-dis osed elan1pingjaws having laterally-extemlihig terminal anchors straddling the eore, and a split ring engaging the Spring-jaws of said supportingclips.
ln testiinon5T that I claim the foregoing as my own lV have hereto affixed my signature ir the presence of two Witnesses.
