Description

PATENTED MAR. 13, 1906 I J.I -I.PARRAR. SWIVEL LOOM.
'ATTORNEYS.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 2,1902.
WITNESSES: v
To all whom it may concern: J
citizen of the United States, residing in JAMES H. FARRARQOF 'PASSAIO JUNCTION, NEW JERSEY. sw vEL-Loom. I
Be it known that I, JAMEsH FA R, a
saic Junction, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Swivel- Looms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters and ii ures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to looms, and it has,
reference particularly to swivel-looms. It being necessary in this class of looms to stop the action of the picker-stick (which drives the fly or main shuttle) when the swivelshuttles come into play, disconnective connecting mechanism between the picker-stick and the tappet or,cam shaft from which its actuation is primarily derived is commonly resorted to.
The obj eot'of this invention is therefore to provide an improved mechanism for thus disconnectively connecting the picker-stick and tappet or cam shaft in an effective and simple manner.
In view of the foregoing the invention con- I sists in an improved disconnective connecting mechanism between the picker-stick and talppet or cam shaft which comprises apart w ich is movable for the purpose of being interposed between or removed from between the tappets or other projections on the camshaft and a part which transmits the tappets influence to the picker-stick.
The-invention still further consists in certain combinations and arran ements of parts hereinafter described, and fInally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
My invention will be found fullyillustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure '1 is a view in front elevation of enough of a loom constructed after the principles of my invention to properly illustrate said invention. Fig. 2'is aplan view of that portion of the loom which involves the mechanism for effecting the raising and lowering of the swivel-shuttles and the mechanism for disconnectivelyconnecting the picker-stick and the cam or. tappet shaft. Fi. 3 is a somewhat-enlarged View, in front e evati on, of the mechanism for disconnfectively con- Pasv Patented March 13, 19 06.
necting the picker-stick'and tappet or cam shaft; and Fig. 4 illustrates a detail.
In the loom-frame a is j ournaled the cam or tappet shaft 12.
c is one of the picker-sticks, fulcrumed at d and normally held outwardly by a spring e.
In the bearings f in one of the sideframes of the loom, is journaled a shaft g, which carries an upwardly-proj ecting crank h, to which the strap 4, of the icker-stick is connected. On this shaft, which is preferably squared, is mounted an arm j, in which is fulcrumed, as at la, a block or shoe Z, having a projection m, which extends down through a curved slot-n in the arm, 7c and is engaged by the forked end 0 of abell-crank lever 12. When the shoe or block is in the position illustrated in Fig.
2, thecams or tappets qon the shaft 1) Will as the rotate impinge against the block, and so roclZ the shaft'g, which will in turn impart actuation to the picker-stick through the arm h and strap i.
'moving the bell-crank lever against the tension of the spring 1" the block will be thrown out of the way of the cams or tappets 9, so
that the actuation of the pickerstick is caused to stop.
The bell-crank lever p is held in the position mentioned bya spring 1. Upons is the frame in which the swivel-shuttles t (shown in dotted lines in Fignl) move and which is suitably guided for vertical movement in the batten structure it. To straps v The flexible connection 2 passes-around the pulley 4 and then around the pulley 3, being connected at its free end to the lever 5 at 7. Then if the lever 5 is moved against the tension of the spring 6 the flexible connections will be released, so that under the action of gravity the frame 8 may drop.
The lever 5 and the shoe or block Z are adapted to be actuated in common from a jack 8. of a dobby or other form of head motion through the medium of a flexible connection 9, which extends downwardly and is divided near the base of the loom, one section thereof, 10, extending to and being con- IIO nected With the pulley 3 at 12, and the other section, 11, being connected with the bellcrank lever 12.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a loom, the combination, with the frame, of the camshaft, a picker-stick, a rock-shaft, an arm projecting from said rockshaft, operative connecting means between the rock-shaft and the picker-stick, and a block or shoe carried by said arm and movable into and out of the path of movement of the cam or cams on said cam-shaft, substantially as described.
2. In a loom, the combination, with the frame, of the cam-shaft, a picker-stick, a rockshaft, an arm projecting from said rock-shaft, operative connecting means between the rockshaft and the picker-stick, a block or shoe carried by said arm and movable in the same into and out of the path of movement of the cam or cams on said cam-shaft, and means for normally holding said block or shoe in the path of said carn or cams on said cam-shaft, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of June, 1902.
