f jiGoTTHARTD CoMMic'Hu, oF-MAGDEBURG, G'ERMANir-fllTo-111,11, whom it may concern; Be it known that I, Gor'rrmirn COMMICHAU,

like grinding-troughs, which are separated by peculiarly-workin transporting devices and of which each hofldsI asinglev crushing-ball. The grist is conducted into these troughs in such a way that the ball touches itwhere the weight ofthe `ball isthe greatest-Ji. e'., only by its lower part. bing together of particles of the rist, which in the rule, `by necessity lies in lhigh piles, is avoided, as well yas the .resistance offered to the ball -by the particles of grist surrounding it. The balls of the present invention .work continuously on a smallquantityof grist introduced uninterruptedly and achieve, therefore, an increasedy effectiveness.
In the drawings the crushing device according to the invention is shown in Figure 1 in vertlcal section. Fig. 2 shows a transverse -section on line :l: :r through apart of the transporting device for the grist; Fig. 3,.av transvelise section on line 'y' 'y through the upper ce s.
The machine is in general similar to the well-known form of ball-mills with diagonally-lying cylinder, in which the grist during the crushing is" gradually conducted from the higher-situated pointI of entranee to the lower point of exit.
The cgflinder al is set into revolution` by means o its diagonally-lying axis b. In the interior of 4the cylinder several ring-like troughs c for the ballsare attached, ,in each of `-Specficatiotri of Letters Patent; A 4ulipiiuniorfitta im 17,1905.'Seriana-265.651. a

By this means the g-reat disadvantage is removed thafl the iinegrist falls back into the coarse grist of the same' trough, andY thereby reduces the 'effect of the weight of the ball on the 'coarse grist. In the lower part of the cylinder a collecting-place i, as well as ,openingsof discharge 7c are provided. Thecollecting-place is surroundedlby a con- 'icalscreen On the more highly lying front walll of the Acylinder a hopper lml is provided, out ofwhich the grist slips throu h openings `.fl/'into the highest cells. Throug the revolution of the cylinder the rising cells get over the groove lying downward; but each cell can onl empty itself in coming nearly above the bal The grist is in this way strewn in front oi"l the ball, is crushed by the same, andy shoves itself sidewise intothe open cells lying below in the next carrying device. This process is repeated .as often as there are grindingtroughs in the cylinder, after which the st falls from the last trough into the colencting-place'i, from here through the openings lc outside on the conical screen l, from Where it can be taken away for 'further treatment. i Besides the advantages gained' through its methods of operation, the most important advantage is still'to be mentioned-viz., that the various models always necessary for the various kinds of work .to be done are done der, the balls always seek toQreI'n'ainat the 5 'charging' device for the *ball-trough'lyingfb away with, as an increase or decreasevof'jthe number of grinding-grooves brings about a higher or lower degree of fineness of the product, by which a considerable saving in power is effected. v
What I cl'ainras my invention, and desire to secure by I'fetters Patent', is;
1, In a crushing-mill the combination of an inclined cylinder, a series of inside troughshaped-rings in the interior ofsame, broad cells formed by radiall -directed Walls between the saidrings, s ort inner cylinders concentrical to the outer-cylinder, joining the rear edges of the walls of the cells and forming openings in the same backward and forwar balls with respect to the breadth of the rinfrs of a larger diameter, one running in each ring, all as described and for the purpose set forth.
2; Ina crushing-mill the combination of an inclined cylinder, a series ofinside troughshaped'ring's in the interior of same, 4broad cells formed b 'radially-directed. walls between .the sai rings, short inner cylinders concentrical to the outer cylinder, oining the rear edges of the walls of the cells and forming openings in the same backward and for- War balls of a diameter larger with respect to the `breadth of said rings, one running in each ring, a hopper on the u per front wall having inlets, outlets round the lower end of the-cylinder, a conical screen concentric'al with respect to the cylinder and Haring from its lower to its higher. end, substantially as described and shown.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
