Description

UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
W. A. SHARP AND JOHN A. SHANNON, OF TAMA CITY, IOWA.
IMPROVED HORSE-COLLAR EASTENING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N c. 81,416, dated August 25, 1868.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, W. A. SHARP and JOHN A. SHANNON, of Tama City, in the county of Tamaand State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Horse-Oollar Fastening; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the acoompa nying drawings, forming part of this specification. 4
This invention relates to a new and improved method of constructing the collars of horse* harness, whereby many advantages over the v ordinary method are obtained; and the invention consists in severing the collar under the neck of the horse, and uniting the parts by a `slidin g dovetail connection, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
Figure 1 represents ahorse-collar complete, constructed according to our invention. Fig. 2 shows the collar separated beneath the neck, with the two parts provided with the dovetail slide. Fig. 3 shows those two parts detached, it being a section through the line .r a: of Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
There is no novelty claimed for this collar,v except inthe fastening, as seen at A.
The ends of the severed collar, B and O, are secured in sockets d d, and on the metallic ends of those sockets are Jthe two parts of a sliding dovetail, c and j'. c is the recess, and f is the projecting tenon, so arranged that the two ends B and C may be separated by simply sliding one from the other.
By this arrangement the rim of the collar is not strained in taking it from the horse, as is the case in taking off the ordinary collar, and the collar is readily removed with the harness, and much time and trouble saved thereby.
The advantages of this method of construction are many, and will be obvious to all.
We claim as new and desire to secure by VLetters Patent- W. A. SHARP. J. ASHANNON.
