GARD HOLDING OR DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 6, 1906.
Application filed Malll 7, 1905- Selll N0. 248,912.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, IRA E. WEEL, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card Holding or Display Devices, of which the following is a specification. l
My invention relates to improvements in card holders particularly' adapted for displaying advertising or price cards in stores and display-windows; and my object has been to construct a simple and cheap device well calculated to meet the requirements indicated and one adapted to hold iii adjustable positions cards of various shapes and sizes.
Hitherto frames of fixed dimensions have been used for displaying rectangular advertising or price cards of predetermined sizes or dimensions. With my improved device, however, these cards may be made in innumerable shapes and sizes and may be displayed adjacent to various classes of goods in the store or window, thereby readily lending themselves to novel advertising displays.
The features of construction of my improved device will be quite easily appreciated by making reference to the accompanying drawings, illustrating embodiments of my invention, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a telescoping and jointed standard carrying an adjustable card-holder and constituting one embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the upper portion thereof. Fig.
3 is a cross-section on line 3 3 of Fig.v 1. Fig. 4 illustrates a modification of one of the adjustable arms; and Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are front views of cards of varying sha es and sizes, e card-holder of my invention.
Throughout each of the several figures similar parts have been indicated by the same character of reference to avoid any possible confusion.
In Fig. 1 the weighted base I) supports the sectional telescopic standard s, the same being angularly adjustable by means of a joint j and binding thumb nut t and longitudinally adjustable at the telesco ic joint j. At the upper end of the standard t e card-holder is carried in its display position, being secured-thereto by means of the thumb-nut t and its transverse screw-bolt s. The adjustable arms a of the card-holding portion are formed of sliding sections a a2, longitudinally slotted at s, thel former being channeled or slightly upturned at its edges to receive and support the latter section in alinement. These arms a are angularly adjustable about the flat-headed securing screw-bolt s when the thumb-nut t is loosened, and said arms likewise may be adjusted as to length within the limits of the central slot. Accordingly it will be seen that the card-holder may be readily adjusted to fit cards of various shapes. The holder shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is adjusted to receive a square card, and the points of the arms are bent over diagonally to form clips k for receiving this form of card. In the structures shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7y the points of the arms are bent over at the ends thereof, so that circular or rectangular cards or cards of irregularly-curved contour, among, others, and of varying sizes may be as readily held for display by the same card-holding device.
In Fig. 4 I have depicted a single arm of such a card-holding device of modified type comprising three telescoping or overlying sections, the central one, c, of which is channeled to receive two slotted outer sections c c2, which are held in place bymeans of flatheaded rivets r r, which secure said sections somewhat tightly together and permit of a much wider range of adjustment than in the precise form shown in Fig. 1.
The parts of the structure may be coppered, nickel-plated, or ornamented with colored enamels to make them more attractive or to conform them to different surroundings or classes of goods.
From the foregoing it will be understood that my invention contemplates a device having various features of adjustment adapting the same to the display of cards or other light articles in stores, show-windows, and the like.
Having now described and shown in the drawings certain structures containing or embodying my improvements, I claim as new, and desire to secure by these Letters Patent, the following:
1. In a card-display device, the combination with the base portion, of an adjustable standard carried thereby, a card holder mounted upon the said standard, comprising two arms angularly adjustable with respect to each other and terminating in receivingclips, each arm being longitudinally adjustable and conforming to cards of varying shapes and sizes, and meansfor securing said arms in their various ositions of angular adj ustment, substantial y as set forth.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination With the tWo angularly-disposed card-holding arms, each comprising a channeled and slotted section, and a second slotted section longitudinally adjustable therein, a securing-bolt, and a mountingstandard and base carrying the said cardholder, substantialljT as described.
3. In a device of the class described, a card-holding structure, comprising a plurality of channeled members and their coactin slotted members longitudinally adjustab e therein to conform to articles of various shapes and sizes, a carrying-standard and a supporting member or base therefor, substantially as set forth.
4. In a card-holder or display-rack, the combination with a base portion, of an' adjustable or telescopic standard thereon, and a card-holding portion or device comprising tWo slotted and channeled members and their coacting slotted parts longitudinally adjustable therein, and a binding screw bolt and nut adapted to secure the arts in various positions of adjustment, su stantially as set forth.
Signed at Cleveland, this 6th day of March, 1905, in the presence of two subscribing Wit- IleSSeS.
IRA E. WEEL. Witnesses:
