)Vikmaoozo I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 27, 1906.
Application filed August 30,1905. Serial No. 276,438.
To alt whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRIsIE LAUNER, a
I citizen of the United States, residing at Arenzville, in the county of Cass and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Forms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in dress-forms or bust-protectors; and the object of the invention is to produce a device of this character which may be easily and quickly attached to a waist and one which will be light and durable; and it consists, essentially, in the provision. of a wire framework which is made flaring and provided with a suitable covering and designed to be buttoned to a waist in such a manner as to protect the bust of the wearer.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of the present invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, shown as applied to a wearer. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the invention, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the framework of wire with its covering removed.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the framework of my invention, which is. made, preferably, of a non-corrosive wire which will not be affected by moisture, and hence will not stain any cloth covering which may be used in connection with the framework. The marginal wire B of the device is connected with cross-wires C, which are spaced apart any suitable distance, each cross-wire having an eye D at each end to receive the marginal wire. Wires E are twisted about the cross-wires, and their ends are fastened to the marginal wires, as shown, said wires E being provided to hold the cross-wires apart. A suitable fabric covering K is fastened to said wires, with ruffles between the ,crosswires in order to allow the wires to yield under pressure. The marginal edges of the fabric are provided with buttons N for connection with the shoulderstrips 0 of a waist O.
While I have described but one of my bustprotectors, it will be understood that I propose to utilize two similarly constructed, one
for each breast, and connected together in the manner shown in the drawings.
From the foregoing it will be noted that by the provision of the dress-form or bustpro tector shown means is provided for holding a dress in true form and one which may be easily and quickly attached to and removed from a waist and being made of such a material as will not discolor or stain the waist or its coverings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination, a pair of protectors each comprisingawire B of substantially inverted- U shape having eyes at its ends, an outwardly-bowed wire having eyes connected to the eyes of said wire B, a series of cross-wires having eyes which are connected to said wire B and spaced apart, said cross-wires being slightly downwardly inclined, binding-wires having eyes at their upper ends connected to the arched portion of said wire B and each twisted about said cross-wires and anchored at their lower ends to the wire which con nects the eyes of the wire B, and a fabric covering for said wires with ruffles intermediate the cross-wires, and means for supporting said pair of protectors on the body of the wearer as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ,affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHRISIE LAUNER.
Witnesses ALBERTINE ENGELBACH, HENRY DAHMAN.
