Be itknown that I, GEORGE H. WINANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalama- ZOO and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hammocks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in hammocks.

The objects of this invention are to provide an improved hammock having a flat bottom which is comparatively light in weight, simple in structure, and at the same time very strong and durable.

Further objects and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure embodying the features of my invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings,forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hammock, the same being illustrated in a suspended position partially unlaced to show the structural details. Fig. 2 is a detail cross-sectional view showing the arrangement of the parts.

In the drawings similar letters of reference refer to similar parts in both views.

Referring to the drawings, the body of the hammock is made up of a bottom portion B, end portions or flaps B, and side portions or flaps b, all formed from a single piece of canvas, duck, or like suitable material. Suitable gromets 0 are inserted in the ends of the side flaps and in the edges of the end fiaps to receive the laces I), as clearly appears from the drawings.

The upper ends of the end flaps B are folded over to form loops 1), adapted to receive the rods 6. A plurality of gromets are inserted beneath the rods 6 to receive the supporting-cords D. These supporting-cords D are bound together into an eye or loop (Z, which is adapted to engage in a suitable hook or other support, as F.

A rectangular frame A, adapted to fit within the body, is provided. Strips C of canvas or other like suitable material are secured to the frame A along their outer edges and ends.

These strips are arranged to leave an open space at the center and are provided with suitable gromets c at their inner edges to receive the lacing-cord 0, whereby their tension is adjusted.

WVith the parts thus arranged I secure a very light hammock which is adapted for use as a bed or cot and which when collapsed or folded occupies but very little space. The structure is also very durable in use and economical to produce.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a hammock, the combination of a body consisting of a bottom portion B of canvas or the like; end flaps or portions B; side flaps or portions 6, said end and side flaps or portions being integral with said bottom portion; gromets c in said side and end flaps; lacing-cords for securing said side flaps to said end flaps; folds or loops Z) in the outer ends of said end flaps; rods e arranged in said loops; gromets in said end flaps arranged below said rods 6; supporting cords D arranged through said gromets and formed into a supporting loop or eye d; a bed-bottom consisting of a rectangular frame A adapted to fit within said body; strips of canvas G secured at their ends and outer edges to said frame; and a suitable lacing for connecting the inner edges of said strips C, all coacting for the purpose specified.

In a hammock, the combination of a body consisting of a bottom portion B of canvas or the like; end flaps or portions B; side flaps or portions 7), said end and side flaps or portions being integral with said bottom portion; gromets c in said side and end flaps; lacing-cords for securing said side flaps to said end flaps; folds or loops 6 in the outer end of said end flaps; rods 6 arranged in said loops; gromets in said end flaps arranged below said rods 6; supporting-cords arranged through said gromets and formed into a supporting loop or eye (Z; a bed-bottom consisting of a rectangular frame adapted to fit within said body; and a canvas cover secured thereto, all coact ing for the purpose specified.

In a hammock, the combination of a body consisting of a bottom portion B of canvas or the like; end flaps or portions B; side flaps or portions 6, said end and side flaps or portions being integral with said bottom portion; folds or loops 6 in the outer end of said end flaps; rods e arranged in said loops; supportingcords arranged about said rods and formed into a supporting loop or eye; a bed-bottom consisting of a rectangular frame adapted to fit Within said body; strips of canvas C secured at their ends and outer edges to said frame; and a suitable lacing for connecting the inner edges of said strips 0, for the purpose specified.

In a hammock, the combination of a body consisting of a bottom portion B of canvas or the like; end flaps or portions B; side flaps or portions 6, said end and side flaps or portions being integral With said bottom portion; folds or loops 7) in the outer end of said end flaps; rods 0 arranged in said loops; supporting 5 cords arranged about said rods and formed into a supporting loop or eye; and a suitable bed-bottom adapted to fit Within said canvas body, for the purpose specified.
