To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I. MARIE B. LE LAYDE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, in the State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Protectors, of which the following is a pecification.

My invention relates more particularly to that class of appliances which are usually fastened to the body of bedridden persons for receiving foreign matters or excrements therefrom and discharge the same into a receivingbucket by means of suitable tubing connected thereon; and its object is to simplify the construction and efficiency of such devices.

To this end my invention consists in certain peculiarities in the construction and arrangement of parts and in certain novel combinations of elements, substantially as hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the subjoined claims.

Referring to the herewith-annexed drawings, consisting of one sheet, which forms a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a top View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a crosssection taken from dotted line 2 2 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 3 is a view taken from dotted line 3 3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow, showing particularly an elevation of a part of my invention; and Fig. dis an enlarged elevation of a part of Fig. 1.

Like letters of reference made use of in the several figures indicate like parts wherever employed.

A represents the main portion of my invention, which is made of rubber or other impermeable material, and B the marginal portion by which the rubber portion is adjusted and secured to the body. canvas or other soft flexible fabric apt to conform itself to the movements of the body while in use and it extends beneath the back of the user in such a manner as to cover a part of the hips and the legs, thus in position to assume a concave shape, as shown in Fig. 2. Both the rubber and marginal portions are secured together by stitches, as shown in dotted line 0 in Fig. 1. rests, and for the purpose of this application I have shown the cushion circular in shape; yetit may be made in various other forms, if desired, and arranged to make within a watertight receptacle E, in which foreign matters drop. The cushion is provided with a valve f for the purpose of inflating the same and in tercepted by pipe 9 to communicate the receptacle E with the receiving-bucket H, which is conveniently placed near by. This pipe may be made of various materials, preferably of flexible nature, and connected to the receptacle in various other ways, if desired, and passes through an aperture g in the main portion A to one side of the receptacle E. Its object is to discharge matters from the receptacle E into the bucket H. The bucket is provided with a cover adapted to close the same hermetically to preventthereby the odor to escape, and the pipe 1 is provided with the coupling 7' (particularly shown in Fig. 4) for the purpose of quickly detaching the same when desired to remove the bucket H- The sides of the marginal portion B are curved inwardly toward the front end to form an outward-projecting tongue J, which is adjustably secured to the waist-belt K behind the back of the user by means of buckle I, thus fastening the front part of my invention to the waist, and the belt K is also adjustably secured in position by means of buckle m.

The parts of the marginal portion adjacent to the hips of the user are fastened to the body by means of two straps N and N, which are ad justably secured around the legs by means of suitable buckles o and 0', and the middle of the rear end of the marginal portion is fastened to the loop 2, secured to the waist-belt K by means of strip Q, projecting from the marginal portion between the legs over the abdomen and adjustably secured in position by means of suitable buckle r, secured to the loop 2.

Thus by the above-mentioned means my invention can be quickly adjusted to fit various sizes, as the case may be; and
