WALL-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 14, 1905.
Application filed March 21, 1905. Serial No. 251,259.
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. VVA'rsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rocl ester, in the county of Beaver, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in WVall-Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to protectors, and more particularly to wall-protectors, and has for its object to provide a device of this nature by which the portion of a wall adjacent to a window-frame or other woodwork may be protected when such woodwork is being washed, thus preventing soiling of the wall.
Other objects and advantages will be appar* ent from the following specification, and it will be understood that changes in the specific construction shown and described may be made and that any suitable materials may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numeralsof reference indicate similar parts in the several Views, Figure 1 is an elevation of the present invention, showing it in use adjacent to the base-board of a wall. Fig. 2 is a view showingit in use at the angle of a window-frame. Fig. 3 is a section through the overlapping portions at one end, showing the pivotal con nection thereof, the section being taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a central portion A and end portions B, which are in the form of rectangular plates. These plates are formed of sheet-iron, tin, or other suitable material, and at their upper edges a and 5, respectively, they are provided with stiffening-rods C, the edge portions of the plates being bent over the rods, as shown. The rod 0 of the central portion A terminates short of the ends of this portion, and the end portions B overlap the central portion, as shown, the rods U of the end portions resting against the ends of the rod of the central portion. Engaged in the overlapping parts of the central and end portions there are pivot-pins E, these pins being located adjacent to the lower and end edges of the central portion, and the distance between these pivot-pins and the inner ends of the portions B is equal or approximately equal to the distance between the pins and the upper edge of the central portion A. The end portions B are thus movable upon the pivotpins to extend beyond the lower edge of the central portion and at right angles thereto, and one or both of them is thus turned when it is desired to protect the wall at the corner of a door or window frame, as shown in Fig. 2. When the end portions are in alinement with the central portions, the engagement of the ends of the rods 0 prevents movement of the end portions to extend beyond the upper edge of the central portion. The central portion is provided with a handle upon its forward face adjacent to its upper edge.
What is claimed is 1. A wall-protector comprising a central plate and end plates pivoted thereto for movement to extend at right angles thereto or to form continuations thereof.
2. A wall-protector comprising a central plate and end plates pivoted thereto for movement to extend at an angle thereto or to form continuations thereof, said end plates overlapping the central plate at its ends.
3. A device of the class described comprising a central plate and end plates pivoted thereto for movement to extend at an angle beyond one edge of the central plate or to form continuations thereof, and means for preventing movement of the end plates to extend beyond the opposite edge of the central plate.
4:. A device of the class described comprising a plate an end plate pivoted to the first plate for movement to extend at an angle beyond one edge thereof or to form a continuation thereof, and a handle carried by the firstnamed plate.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
