To all], whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I,W1LLIAM J. WALTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rock Island, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Device for Holding Fishing Rods, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to a device for holding fishing-rods, the objects in view being to provide a holder for the above purpose capable of being easily adjusted to and removed from a relatively fixed support and to receive and support in a removable mannejl and at any desired adjustment a fishingr0 Accompanying this specification and to form a part of it is a sheet of drawings containing six figures, illustrating my invention, with the same designation of parts by letter reference used in all of them.

Of the illustrations, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved fishing-rod holder in the position in which it is attached to any relatively fixed support, with the base-plate in horizontal position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the base-plate, showing the elevated bosses for engaging the threaded poleholding members at E when the plate is to stand horizontally and for engaging the same members at D if the plate is set up vertically. Fig. 3 is a erspective'view of the base-plate set up'vertlcally with the pole-engaging memhere in position. Fig. 4 is an independent perspective view of the curved seat member when said member is in the form of a screwhook. Fig. 5 is an independent perspective view of the forked clamp, consisting of two wire springs formed by passing a piece of light wire through the head of a threaded bolt and by upbending said wire until it forms a loop or spring.

The manner of using my invention is as follows: When the curved seat member A is in the form of a screw-hook and both said curved seat member and forked clamp B are threaded into the apertures at E, if the baseplate H is to be placed horizontally or into the apertures at D when it is desired to attach the base-plate vertically, the device having been secured to a relatively fixed support by means of ordinary screws, as shown in Fig.1, if the curved seat member A is so turned as to project rearwardly from the base-plate the pole may then be laterally inserted, the hook be given a quarter-turn, when the pole is brought in alinement with the forked clamp B, in and upon which it rests. The weight of the forward part of the rod will tilt the whole rod in such a way as to cause it to be securely held in the curved seat member and the forked clamp. Any desired angle of elevation may be obtained by varying the vertical position of the curved seat member and the forked clamp by means of the adjustment of the screws on said clamp and said curved seat member. The" general disposition of the pole when thus set is shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.

The object of the interchangeable threaded orifices at D and E and the arrangement for setting up the base-plate horizontally or vertically, as may be desired, is to provide for horizontal or inclined supports, as such may be found convenient.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a fishing-rod holder, the combination of a curved seat member and forked clamp with a base-plate provided with two screwthreaded bosses adapted to receive the curved seat member and forked clamp interchangeably.

2. In a fishing-rod holder, the combination of a base-plate and two screw-threaded poleengaging members mounted in said baseplate by means of which the pole may be adjusted in angular elevation.

I 3. In a fishing-rod holder, the combination of two pole-engaging members with a base member having two sets of threaded apertures for interchangeable arrangement of said pole-engaging members.

4. In a fishing-rod holder the combination of a base-plate provided with screw-threaded sockets, a curved seat member and a forked clamp, threaded into said sockets.
