Description

Nol 800,637. PATBNTBD 00T. 3, 1905. G. GALLIMORE.
PLOW. PPPP loulou rILnD APB. 11, 190s.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1905.
Application filed April 1'7, 1905. Serial No. 255,974.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE GALLIMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ethridge, in the county of Lawrence and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to plows, and more particularly to that class having subsoil attachments, one of the objects of my invention being to provide a device of the character described which may be adjustably secured to the ordinary walking-plow and Which may also be likewise used on gang or riding plows.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described that shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, durable, easy of operation, and effective in results and which, by means of a lever, may be raised or lowered to cut the soil to the depth desired and which may be so arranged as to travel in front oi' the plow-point and in the middle oi' the furrow opened up by the plow to which my device is secured.
Other objects and advantages of my invention as well as the structural features by means of which these objects are attained will be made clear by an examination of the speciiication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which the same reference-numerals indicate corresponding portions throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ordinary walking-plow, showing my device attached thereto. Eig. 2 is a perspective view of the subsoiler-standard. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the subsoiler plow point or share, and Eig. 4 is a vertical section.
1 designates the beam of an ordinary plow, having an adjustably-mounted clevis 2 at the outer end thereof.
3 designates a subsoiler plow beam or lever having a rounded handle 4 at one end and having the other end pivotally and adjustably mounted at the forward end of the plow-beam 1 by means of the bolt 5 and the bolt-holes 6, said lever being bent, as shown at 7, to diverge from the plow-beam 1 to any suitable distance. Removablyandadjustablymounted on the beam 3, preferably at a point which will bring the share 13 hereinafter mentioned in front ot' the plow-point, is the subsoil-standard 8, provided with the holes 9, and which rests in a kerf 10, cutI in said beam 3, and is held in operative position by means of a bolt 11, passing through the beam and through one of the holes 9, this arrangement of parts permitting said subsoiler-standard to be vertically adjusted, as may be desired. The subsoiler-standard 8 has also a sharp edge 8 at its lower end in order to cut the soil with which it comes in contact when the share 13 isin operation. Mounted rigidly on or formed integral with the lower end of said standard is a diverging plate 12, to which is removably secured by any suitable means the shovel plow point or share 13. In the drawings said share 13 is shown secured to the diverging plate l2 by means of nuts and bolts and is provided with a kerf, into which the front edge of the standard 8 passes when said share is secured in operative position on the plate 12. To aid in more securely holding the standard 8 in operative position on the beam 3, a clamp or clip 15, of Well-known construction, is employed, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. A rod or brace 16 is pivotally mounted at one end on the plowbeam 1 and at the other end on the subsoiler beam or lever 3, the object of said rod or brace 16 being to control the action of said subsoiler plow-beam 3 and at the same time to permit said beam or`lever 3 to be raised and lowered by means of the handle 4, operated by the person guiding the plow.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, ish
In a subsoiler attachment for plows, the combination, with a xed plow-beam, of a diverging plow-beam movably mounted on the xed plow-beam, a handle for said diverging plow-beam whereby it may be operated and controlled, a standard provided with a plurality of holes arranged in a vertical line longitudinally of the standard, a clip encircling the diverging plow-beam and the standard at an angle and acting as a brace for the standard, a bolt passing through the diverging plowbeam whereby the standard may beheld in a IOC) raised or lowered position, a divergingr plate In testimony whereof I hereunto ailx my carried by the lower end of the standard, and signature 1n presence of two witnesses.
