' GARMENT-OLASP- i To all whom, it my concern:

G'mnnns KOBMANN, citizens of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and Stateof Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garspecification.

Our invention relates to improvements in garment-clasps. One of its objects is to provide an improved pivot garment-clasp adapted for use on garters, suspenders, and similar articles.

Another object is to provide a clasp of the above character in which the members may be clasped and unclasped, in which the members will moverelativc to each other with a minimum amount of friction, and which is mg or pivotal movement of the members,

not liable to become accidentally unclasped.

It further consists in certain details of form, combination, and arrangement, all of which will be more fully set forth in, the description of the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of one of the clasp members. Fig. 2 is a central section through the same on line 1: o of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the opposite clasp membcr.' Fig. 4 is a central section through the same on line on w of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is "a plan view of the two members in the clasped position, being modified by theomission of two of the slots at. Fig. 6 is a section through the same on line w w of Fig. -5. Figs. 7 8, and 9 are views similar to Figs. 1, 2, and 3, showing a modification, Figs. 7 and 8 showing the reverse side from Figs. 1 and 5. Fig.10is aview, similar to Fig. 5, of another modificatio I v A and 13, Figs. 1 to represent, respectively, the opposite clasp memberofa garter. The member A is provided with slots at for theattachment of the elastic ribbon. The number of slots at is immaterial, four being shown in Fig. 3, while only two are shown in Figs. 5, 8, and 10.

The parts are so proportioned that when united the tongue D rests at its forward edge against the rib E and forms a rocking pivot or knife-edge bearing therewith, the circumference of edge d being less than that of rib E. The finger Fduring the introduction of tongue D bears uponits upper surface and after its introduction springs down in rear of tongue D sufiiciently to prevent its-ready or accidental retraction. If desired, a further projection d may be formed on the tongue D to prevent any tendency of the parts becoming accidentally unclasped by reason of the increased force required to pass the projection 01' beneath the spring-finger. The slot (3 is of sufiicient length to permit the desired rockwhile the rocking or knife-edge bearing insures a minimum amount of friction. The tongue D holds the faces of the two members close to each other, and there are no projecv tions liable to catch the garments. The parts are simple in form and readily formed at a single operation by stamping from sheet metal.

In the modification Figs. 7, 8, and 9 the rocker or knife-edge bearing is formed between the point G on member B and the base of the tongue D on the member A instead of as shown in Figs. 1 to 6. In this form the end d of tongue D is shorter, contact with rib E.

In the modification Fig. 10 the rib E has a projection E and the tongue D is notched at its forward end, so as to form a rocker or knife-edge bearing with the projection E.

The mechanism herein specified is capable of considerable 'mo'd ification j without departing from the principle of our invention.

Having described our invention, what we claim is 1. In an article'of the character indicated, a clasp member having a raised tongue and an engaging member having a raised rib, to occupy a position in front of the tongue,a slot to receive said tongue, and a spring-finger to engage the rear end of the tongue toretain the tongue in the engaged position.

2. In an article of the character indicated a clasp member having a raised tongue, an engaging member having a slot to receive said tongue, and a spring-finger to engage the rear so as not to end of thetongue to retain the tongue in pohe tongue and the last-named memencircle said tongue, a slot for the passage ofthe tongue, and a knife-edge or rocking contact between the tongue and. raised rib.

4. In an article of the character indicated a clasp member having .a raised tongue, an engaging member having a raisedrib to partially encircle the tongue, a slot for the passage of the tongue, aspring-finger to retain the tongue in place and a knife-edge or rocking contact between the tongue and raised rib.

5. In an article of the character indicated a clasp'memb'er having a raised tongue, an engaging member having a raised rib in front of the tongue,-a slot" forthepassage of the tongue and a knife-edge or rocking contact between thetongue and raised rib.

6. In an article of the character indicated a claspmember having a raised tongue, an engaging member having a raised rib in front Y of the tongue, a slot for the passage of the tongue and a knife-edge or rocking contact kbetween the tongue and said last-named mem- In testimony whereof we have aflixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
