Description
PATENTED SEPT. 5, 1905.
C. G. BAUGHMAN, Sn. PULLBY ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION TILED snme, 1904. RENEWED JULY 1.190s.
GI'IRISIIOPIIER C. BAUGHHAN, Slt, OF BOLAIR, \VELT VIRGINIA.
PULLEY ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 5, 1905.
Application filed September 6, 1904. Renewed July 1, 1905. Serial No. 268,001.
Be it known that I, Ciuns'rormin C. BAUGII- MAX, S12, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bolair, in the county of \Vebster and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful lulley Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to pulleys employed in transmitting materials by traveling upon a rope or cable; and the object of the invention is to provide an attachment for the pulley by means of which said pulley can be quickly and easily placed upon the rope or cable at an y desired point; and with this object in view the invention consists in the special features of construction hereinafter fully de scribed, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pulley provided with my improvement and arranged upon a cable. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the latch opened and the pulley removed from the cable. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the pulley, the attachment being shown in elevation. Fig. 4 is a sectional end view showing the manner of releasing the latch, and Fig. is a view showing the latch detached from the pulley-block.
In carrying out my invention I employ a pulley'block A the cheek-pieces of which are' united at their upper ends and separated at their lower ends. A sheave Bis journaled between the cheek-pieces upon the journalpin 0. The lower ends of the cheek-pieces are slotted vertically, as shown at I) and E, a pivot-pin F passing through the slotted,end l) and connecting the latch G to said end, said latch resting in the said slotted end and the pin F passing through the bore H, formed in the end of the latch. This latch is essentially right angular in shape, and the vertical member thereof has a slot 1, which is adapted to engage the catch or keeper K, projecting outwardly from the pulley-block, as most clearly shown, said catch or keeper being formed with a beveled nose, so that the 'atch can ride thereon and automatically lock itself, as shown in Fig. 3. A thumb-piece Lis preferably carried by the latch above the slot 1;
An openbut it may be omitted, if desired.
ing M is produced in the horizontal member of the latch and in which turns the shank of a swivel N, and a hook O is connected to this swivel end, and to this hook the bail or suspending member of a bucket, basket, or other receptacle can be connected.
\Vhen the pulley is used in work Where it will drag on the ground or come into contact with obstacles liable to engage the thumb piece L and trip the latch G, Iprovide a shield or guard L,as shown in Fig. -t.
A pulley constructed as herein shown and described is particularly adapted for moving bulky material from one point to another upon a cable, and it will be seen that the pulley can be quickly and easily arranged upon the cable at any desired point and also easily removed therefrom, as it is only necessary to open or close the latch, and in order to open the latch it is only necessary to press upwardly upon the same, as shown in Fig. t, the slot E being deep enough to permit this upward movement of the latch.
Ilaving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. Apulley-blockhavingasheavejournaled therein, said pulley-block being open at its lower ends, a right-angular latch pivotally connected to the lower end of one of the cheekpieces of the said pulley-block, and having a slot in the vertical member thereof, and a catch projecting from the other cheek-piece of the pulley-block, and adapted to be engaged by the latch, and a swivel connected to the horizontal member of the latch.
Q. A pulley-block, the cheek-pieces of which are connected at their upper ends, and slotted vertically at their lower ends, a right-angularshaped latch pivoted in one of the slotted ends, and provided with a slot in its vertical member, a catch carried by the pulley-block and adapted to be engaged by said slotted member, and a swivel connected to the horizontal member of the latch, as set forth.
