THOMAS BALLE KNUDSEN. OF KORSOR, DENMARK.
OFFIGE-E'TAGERE FOR FILING AND STORING, LETTERS, 8w.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,427, dated June 13, 1905.
Application filed October 15, 1903. Serial No. 177,202.
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that LTHOMAS BALLE KNUDSEN, bank-bookkeeper, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Korsor, Denmark, have invented a new and useful Ofiice-Etagre for Filing and Storing Letters, &c., of which the following is a specification.
The present invention refers to an ofiicetagere for filing and storing papers and documents of any kind.
It consists, mainly, of anumber of drawers open in front and formed of a bottom piece, two side pieces, and aback piece. Along the side pieces t here is belowthe bottom piece fastened an| -shaped rail of metal, which when one drawer is pushed over the other will, with its lower flange, gear with a groove or catch around a list fastened on the outside and near the top of the side pieces of the drawer immediately below.
Instead of metal rails grooves can be cut on the inside of the side pieces below the bottom and corresponding to grooves in the upper edge of the side pieces. In order to be able always to give the drawers the most advantageous position, there belongs to each tagere a block of triangular crosssection, in the ends of which are grooves in different directions for the flanges of the metal rails of the bottom drawer.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are perspective views. Figs. 6 and 7 are sectional views, Fig. 7 being a modification; and Fig. 8 is a View of the block.
Each drawer consists of a bottom piece a side pieces a, and aback piece a Along the side pieces there is below the bottom piece fastened an III-shaped metal rail f, and on the outside near the top of the side pieces are ararranged grooves g, with which the rails f of the drawer immediately above engage.
In Fig. 7 instead of using the metal rails g the sides A are extended downwardly below the bottom a and are provided with grooves a, which form a projection to, which is adapted to engage with the grooves of the drawer immediately below.
Fig. 8 shows the block b. This block is triangular in shape and is provided with grooves b and 72 adjacent the long and short sides, providing ribs which slide in the metal rails g or the grooves (6 Fig. 1 shows the tagere placed in the drawer of a writing-table. By means of the block b the bottom box a of the tagere is given such a position that its uppermost corners do not protrude over the edge of the table-drawer. The next box cis then pushed in upon the first one until its back piece strikes against the bottom of the table-drawer, and so on, until the drawer is full. The last box (Z is supplied with a cover (2, having a metal rail f on the under side. The documents filed in the compartments thus formed cannot be disarranged because the drawer is pulled out or pushed in.
Fig. 2 shows the tagero placed in a document-cabinet, not being so deep as the drawers. By means of the block I) the lowermost drawer is placed so that its front does not reach outside the cabinet, whereafter the other drawers are pushed in until the cabinet is full.
Fig. 3 shows the tagere placed upon an inclined desk. The block b is here placed below the bottom drawer, so that it rests horizontally.
Fig. 4 shows the tagere placed on top of a writing-table, with the drawers arranged, like stairs, on top of one another. The block b is in this case used as a support.
Fig. 5 shows the tagere placed thus that the opening of the drawers turned upward if, for instance, they are placed low and it is desired to look into the different compartments.
By this tagereasystem is obtained whereby any cabinet, writing-table, or similar piece of furniture can be easily made into a practical paper-file and document-storer.
I claim as my invention- 1. A device for filing letters and the like comprising a plurality of interlocking boxes open at the top and one side and a supporting-block interlocking with the bottom box, substantially as described.
2. A device for filing letters and the like comprising a plurality of boxes open at the I 00 top and one side' and having tongues below I In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my tle bottoms sliding in grooves in the upper hand in presence of two witnesses.
e ges of the next lower box, and a wedger shaped supporting-block having grooves in THOMAS BALLE RNUDSEN' its ends whereby it is adapted to interlock Witnesses:
with the tongues of the bottom box to hold L. J EPSEN,
the same inclined, substantially as described. SOIUS MOLLER.
