Description

k@uhmb qtts stwt @Hire JAco-HAEDING, or soEooLoEAET, MICHIGAN, AssIeNoEI To HENRY I.
' ALLEN s 00,01?` SAME PLACE.`
Letters Patent No. 79,223, dated June 23, 1868.
I IMPROVED H'AMES-FASIENBR lTO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it knownV that I, JACOB HARDING, of Schoolcraft, in the county of Kalamazoo, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and improved Harness-Hemos Fastener; and I do declare that the following is a true and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings', and to the letters of reference marked and making part of this specification, in which-` Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention contracted, as in use` and Figure 2 is the same extended, so as to'receive the homes at hooks D. l
The nature of my invention consists in providing the ends of the haines with`mctal straps, which are con nected by a lever pivotcd to the same, at some distance apart, the arms of the lever serving to operate the straps by drawing them nearer together, and compressing the hame's {ix-mty in their places. The lever being provided with a. longitudinal projection, secures the straps in position, when contracted, by iittinginto a groove prepared for it'in the face ofthe strap, when closed, and there 'secured by the spring ofthe arm of the lever and strap, and holding the whole i'irmly in place. v
Having thus explained the nature of my invention, I will now proceed to describe the construction and method of operating the saine, and name its various parts.
C is a'lever, hinged at its end to strap B, by the boit 2, and to the strap A by the bolt By reversing ,the position of the lever C, fromthe position shown in iig. 2 to that shown in iig. 1, the llames are drawn together and isecured in position by the projection E entering the groove 3.
A is a. strap, provided with two Aor more holes for inserting the bolt 1, to vary the `length of the apparatus as required, which may be still further contracted by the strap A, by the bolt 1, through the hole 5, to the strap B, according to the space required between the hames.4
What I claim as my invention, und desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The straps A and B, connected by the lever as and-for the purposes set forth;
2. The projecting-feather E and gioove 3, when operated in connection with lever-arm and strap B, substantially as described und for the purposes specified.
