TRUNK FIXTURE.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 24. 1904.

ATENT FFIQIE.
TRUNK-FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,748, dated May 23, 1905.
Application filed August 24., 1904. Serial No. 221,913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, 01 1 0 RANeNoW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunk-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in trunk-fixtures; and the object of my invention is to make a fixture which will serve as a strap-holder. an angle-iron or knee to protect the trunk and strap, and a caster.
A further object of my invention is to construct the fixture in one piece, so that it can be readily attached to the trunk, will have a neat appearance, and can be manufactured at a very low cost.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a trunk, showing my invention attached to the under side thereof. Fig. 2 is a face view of the fixture. Fig. 3 is a side view of Fig. 2. Fig. 4. is a section as on line 4 4:, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a section as on line 5 5, Fig. 3.
In the drawings, A represents the trunk, and A the bottom of the same, to which are attached the fixtures B. Straps C encircle the trunk and are held by the fixtures B.
The fixture B consists of an angle-iron having flanges B and B which bear against the trunk and take the place of the ordinary trunk-clamp or knee which is used to brace the trunk at these points. The flanges B and B are provided with ears I), in which are formed apertures, through which the rivets 6 pass to secure the fixture B to the trunk. The central or body portion of the fixture is offset, so as to form a recess or pocket to receive the strap C and protect the strap where the same passes around the edge of the trunk, at which point the strap is subjected to the hardest usage.
The fixture B is provided upon one of the angles of the body portion 6 with projections and 5*, which form bearings between which is secured the shaft D, having a caster D loosely mounted thereon.
Where it is desired to use one long strap to encircle the trunk, the strap may be drawn through the pocket of the fixture, or where it is desired to use short pieces of strap the same may be secured together within the pocket, so that the joint will not show. Thus a saving in the cost of the strap may be made, as a strap made up of short pieces of leather is much cheaper than a strap made of one long piece of leather. When a strap made of short pieces is used, the same may be secured to the fixture B by inserting rivets through the apertures in the ears 0 and c projecting from the body portion 6 so that the pieces of the strap may be securely attached to the fixture and the trunk. The long straps may also be secured in this manner, so that they cannot be removed from the trunk.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a trunk-fixture the combination of an angle-iron consisting of flanges and a body portion offset from said flanges to form a recess to receive a strap, projections formed on one member of said angle-iron and acaster mounted in said projections, substantially as described.
2. In a trunk-fixture the combination of an angle-iron consisting of flanges and a body portion offset from said flanges to form a recess to receive a strap, projections formed on one angle of said body portion, a shaft secured in said projections, a caster mounted on said shaft, and means for securing said flanges to the trunk, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OTTO RANGNOW.
